(Closed) do florists charge sales tax?

Our florist did for our quote! I was surprised, but I don’t know why I was. She’s offering a product/service, right?  Some things still surprise me.

It depends on the state.  It also depends on the vendor.  Some work under the table and don’t collect sales tax when they should while others are very diligent about complying with tax laws.  Some might not collect tax on the whole bill either: they might collect tax just on the flowers and not on the labor portion, for example.

Yes, if it is a legit florist w/a studio or store, they will charge tax. Ours was 9%, outch!

What maverika said.  My understanding is that no one is legally obligated to charge *you* tax…but most everyone will b/c the business is taxed for its sales, and they are allowed to pass that cost on to the customer.  Some vendors might just roll it into their prices. I feel fortunate our tax is pretty low…it just got hiked this year, but b/c a lot of my contracts were finalized prior to that, I got the lower rate, woohoo!
