We have a grocery store that’s right behind our house so we frequent it pretty often. I think we also kind of stick out (super tall white guy and small Asian girl). We don’t get carded depending on our cashier and I’m positive it’s because they remember us.

Yup the morning crew at my local grocery store totally recognizes me. The girl that carries out my groceries is pregnant too so she always asks me about my pregnancy & what to expect. I’m actually not so secretly excited about taking the baby shopping with me so my “friends” at the store can see her. Ha!

I’m sure they do since we live in a tiny town and I do 90% of my shopping there. I recognize many of the deli workers and cashiers. i don’t greet them by name but I have learned a lot of their names just by being in there often.

Yep, and not just the grocery store….
The grocery store: I visit once a week and they always comment on the number of “parties” we must have. Um, no. We just drink that much wine.
The Starbucks: It’s directly next door to my office. Right next door. I go there at least five times a day, because yes, I drink that much coffee. They know everything about me, and I cannot remember the last time I paid for a cup of coffee.
The bar: Yep, one block from our house. Every bartender knows us, what we drink, how we like our food, etc.
The gas station: Three blocks from our house, and they totally recognize me as the girl who struggles to get the pump to stay on. I don’t know why my car has this problem, but they just know me now and automatically come outside to help.
*sigh*…I must look like some kinda hot mess to all of these people.

- Wedding: October 2019 - City, State
KC-2722: Ha! my story is similar :\
idoalterations: Not a grocery store, but the 7-11 by my house for sure. The midnights clerk on the weekends knows me and my sister by name. For years, we\I have always ended up in there when coming home from going out (oh… no one else wants nachos, taquitos, or flamin hots and cheese dip when they drink? that’s just me? …oh ok). So just a week ago, we went into the 7-11 and she goes “stardust!! stardust’s sister!!!! it’s been a while, how have you been?! I was getting sad since I haven’t seen you girls in a while”
Well thanks 7-11 lady…. but on the bright side, since she hasn’t seen us in a while that must mean I have calmed my ass down these days.

Yes, although I shop for food at various places, ie meat at Whole Foods, and big trips at the mega grocery 15 minutes away, I am at my local store several times a week or more. I’ve lived here for years and most of the employees have been here the whole time, so they know me by name and vice versa. Ditto the pharmacy, the cleaners, the post office etc.
Occasionally the cashiers comment on something I’m buying, such as “What are you making?” or “Having a party?”. I could probably do without the editorial comments on my order, but I don’t think they do this with people they don’t know well. It’s so rare to live in a place where everyone knows your name that I mostly appreciate it, but I can see where someone would not.

Wegmans is too huge to have a regular cashier. The only people who recognize us is Greg at Subway who makes us lunch each Saturday before we go grocery shopping and the bartender at our favorite mexican restaurant. I love me some margaritas!

As someone who has been a cashier, I definetly remember customers. Enough that they recognize me in public and know me by name and will stop and chat. My Fiance and I live in a small town, so I get recognized from working at the store (sometimes I get recognized at the store by clients from the law firm I work at full time) and he gets recognized from when he was a server.
I don’t normally remember what they buy, unless its really odd. Normally, I only remember how they interact with me/the person bagging for me.

yeah a few at my grocery store recognize me. I go in at least once a week if not more, how could they not?

Last week I nipped to the store where my husband and I do our weekly shop (with our 18 month old daughter) to get some alcohol and I got asked for ID! I was really surprised because I thought they’d maybe remember me, it’s a small enough town, also I’m 31! I had my passport with me so NBD.

- Wedding: Either Philadelphia City Hall or a small chapel.
Not pregnant, but, our local Pathmark defintiely recognizes FH. He’s always going in for his own snacks…particularly icecream and chips. They’re friendly, though, in general.
When we lived in Center City, we actually became friends with a deli worker at the nearby Superfresh and he would always hook us up (Etc. charging us for a 1/2 lb and giving us a full; free food). I wonder how he’s doin…
