    I think people understand you had a lot on your plate before the wedding! No need to apologize, you are still sending them a thank you!

    It is always more polite to apologize when you have made an error. Even if it is not about just the thanking them, you also held onto someone’s cheque and not cashed it for a month.  I would apologize for that even if you don’t want to appologize for the tardiness of the thank you itself.

    And the gold standard for all thank you notes is to do them before you go to bed on the night you receive your gift.
