Yesterday my Future Sister-In-Law said that I can borrow her veil and it can be my something borrowed. It got me thinking, I totally forgot about this tradition. Does it have to be an accesory I wear? or what if I don’t have anything?

definitely not – you don’t need any of that.

My Fiance and I just had a conversation about this the other day. I’m of the mind that I’m not going to go out of my way to do this (FI thought every bride just followed this tradition). If I happen to find something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue that I like and actually want to incorporate on my wedding day, great! If not, well, then that’s OK, too. I just don’t want to have to use something I don’t like. FI’s mom wanted me to use a family necklace as my something borrowed, and it was so not my style. In that situation, not following tradition was very helpful!

Haha, I don’t know the answer, and I also just really thought about this, but I’m borrowing a veil. I’m thinking I’ll wear a blue garter. And something old – guess that will be my engagement ring as everything else will be new.

Nope – I didn’t – it was the least of my concerns while planning a DIY wedding 😉

No you do not need to do this, it is only if you want to. As of right now for my wedding only thing don’t have is something borrowed
Post # 9
No you don’t HAVE to do it at all! It’s your wedding, you can do whatever you (and your fiance!) want to do!
Nope. All you really need is your Fiance, an officiant and a marriage license!
Of course you don’t NEED it! 🙂 You can do whatever you want. People only keep this tradition for fun.

It’s just for fun… it’s easy to wear blue/”old” underwear or a garter (or shoes!) but I guess the hard one would be something borrowed… (it is fun to buy “perfect” new things!) 🙂
Post # 13
You don’t HAVE to. It’s just a fun old tradition.

You don’t have to do anything! It is your day and if you don’t want to do some tradition, you don’t have to!
Nope. I’m not doing any of it. The only reason I have SOME of the things is because my e-ring is 8 years old, my dress, jewelry, shoes (unless you call 1 year old and never worn before “old”….) is new, and my e-ring is a dark blue sapphire.
I REFUSE to walk around with a six-pense in my shoe. I HIGHLY doubt we’ll meet up with a funeral procession on my wedding day and even if we did, there’s no way you can stop and give them the six-pense, return home, then start out again. Not only do they NOT stop these days, but that’s way too much waste of gas and time!!!
Also, I haven’t thought of “borrowing” anything. Not my style.
