I tested positive in the early afternoon.  Hormones are concentrated in the morning, meaning you’re less likely to get a false negative, but that doesn’t mean you can only test positive in the morning.

Do you have 2 tests? I’d take one ASAP and if it is negative test in the morning

i took it at night for my positive a few days after my missed period (and in the morning 5 days before, but got a negative!).  basically the hormone the test is measuring is highest in the morning – but it also goes up dramatically every day you are pregnant.  So if you are testing super early, then morning urine will be your best bet.  If you are testing around when your period or due or after, probably any time will do as there should be a higher level of hormones to measure.  The worse that can happen by testing at other times is a false negative….

Morning urine has the most hcG because it’s most concentrated.  That’s because you haven’t peed in eight hours.  You can take a HPT anytime you want, and if you haven’t peed in 8 hours, you should get a fairly accurate reading.

Testing in the AM is the best if you’re only a day or so late. I waited till I was definitely 3 days late and got a positive in the late morning (so not first thing).

@JaneyD: when we got our bfp, it was in the afternoon. I think that it is more important to test first thing in the morning when you test earlier than or close to when af is due. My cycles were really irregular for 2 years after coming off the pill and I didn’t fall pg until they were regular.

I tested around 5 pm and got a super-duper quick positive.  Turns out that’s probably to do with the fact that I’m pregnant with twins! I’d bought 2 double packs so I was prepared to take another if it didn’t come pack positive (I was about 5 days late and my cycle is like clockwork…)

I tested mid-day, but I’d already missed my period on a very regular cycle.

If your cycle isn’t regular it might be better to wait until the am… or get some inexpensive tests if you may be using a bunch of them! 🙂

I tested in the afternoon, and I got a BFP immediately!  If you’re pregnant it will be able to read that no matter what time of day you pee on the stick. Plus, in the beginning before I found out I was peeing all day and night, so at no point did urine ever sit in my bladder for more than a couple of hours.

@JaneyD: I totally know how you feel! My cycle hasn’t regulated yet either and I’m constantly thinking that this month might be it! Then Aunt Flo pays a visit.

Try another test in a few days and see if that comes back positive! Waiting until at least day 35 or 36 might be better for you since you aren’t regular yet.
