I really don’t think it’s important but I’m not one who is fussed for details. No one will really see it anyways, you can just use one from your caterer.

It doesn’t matter. I wouldn’t worry about it! No one is going to be looking at what kind of knife you used in the photos.

In the traditional pose of the bride and groom cutting the cake, your hands completely cover the handle of the cake knife. If you want one for sentimental reasons, go ahead and get one.

If not, does anyone in your family have one you could borrow?

@vanessa7:  At my first wedding I had a cake knife set. And then after the wedding it went in a box and sat in my closet. Biggest waste of whatever I paid for it.

We used a rented one from our bakery. I didn’t really care about it, I just wanted cake.

@vanessa7:  I forgot to use the one I bought for my first wedding and for my most recent (and last) wedding we barely remembered a knife to cut the cake at all.  I wouldn’t waste the money on something that isn’t essential and won’t get used again except for maybe the occasional anniversary.

it’s not somethng i think we’ll be getting. the cutting the cake takes a whole 5 minutes of our running sheet & during that time its completely covered anyway.

I bought a cheap set on Amazon for $7. Now I use it when we have desert at family gatherings or parties. I wouldn’t spend a lot of money on one.

I dont think they are really needed. In the pictures all you can see are the blade anyways. I’m just going to use one from the venue.

We had to buy a set, the hotel we had our reception at wouldn’t let us use one of their knives

They aren’t really needed. We also used my inlaws knife, since their daughter used it in her wedding starting somewhat of a family trend. I guess.

I don’t think you *need* one, but we did register for a nice set just because we don’t have one at the moment. If nobody buys it, we’ll either borrow from my FI’s parents or use what the venue has to offer.

We bought a Vera Wang one with money my Grandma gave us for our engagement. We used it for the wedding and will keep it as a souvenir and hopefully use it again. We didn’t need to do this though as the venue offered to lend us one.
