Hello Bees, I am planning on doing escort cards so the servers can determine who is eating what (based on the color of the card), but I am not going to do a seating chart. I rather have guests choose their own seats.
Do I still need table numbers? The only reason I think I may need them is because it would help the banquet servers hand out dinners. But, if I can save a little money and time, then I rather not put them out. What do you think?
Thanks for the help!

I would think if you were having specific people get specific meals it would just be easier to assign them seats. That way you can give the list to your caterer ahead of time and make it a lot easier on the servers. If you aren’t going to do that though, I wouldn’t think you would need table numbers.

Originally we were going to allow people to choose their own seats, but the closer we get to the reception day, we’ve decided to have assigned seating only because it’s actually easier. People don’t rush in for the “good” seats, and they don’t tip up the chairs against the tables to save their seats… However, even before we decided to go with assigned seating, we were going to have table numbers.
I think in your situation, you probably don’t need them.

@PitBulLover: You make a very good point. It is a lot easier on the waitstaff if they know at the very least how how many of each menu choice go to each table. If the guests pick their own tables, there is no way to make things easier on the staff.

I dont know about numbers, but have extra tables if you want to do that so families and groups of people dont get split up that want to sit together.
Inevitably there will be two seats left, but a family of 4 will want to sit together.
