We’re having a semi-destination wedding, in that about 90% of our invited 145 guests live somewhere else. The wedding is in Northern CA, and his family lives in Los Angeles, and mine lives on the East Coast. We have an extensive wedding website, including maps and directions and other information, and we’re planning to include a little card in our invite that points people to the website and mentions that information can be found there.
My question to you: Do I need to include printed directions to the venue from the 3 area airports?

Are your guests techno-savy? If so, I would not include it. If you only have a handful of guests you know aren’t (older relatives) then I would do a map/directions card for them. For the Bay area I would only do directions from SFO and SJC. I don’t think many people fly into Oakland.

We aren’t having a destination wedding, but I did include a very simple map in the invites. Only to let people know the road to turn on OFF of a main road. If it’s going to be inexpensive to do it, I would. But it’s totally up to you. People will find it either way, whether or not you add a map. So if you want to save a little $$ don’t do it! But, if you want the older folks to get a better idea of where it is…def. add 🙂

We are, even though we have the information online. We have guests who don’t use the internet, and need to know the side roads and which roads to turn on to get to the ceremony & reception. We’re going to print it out on our own, so it won’t cost anything except paper & ink.

Yes. If you want guests to show up, you need to include printed directions in the invites. Also, written directions are easier to follow for most folks than picture maps.

Thanks, everyone. We originally thought we’d include a map of major highways (I drew outlines and pinpointed the venue, etc.) with detailed directions from both SFO and SJC. I had the thought yesterday that maybe it’s not necessary, but I think we may have enough non-tech savvy guests that it might be worth it. Pretty much noone knows the area, so it will probably be helpful if they don’t use the Internet to look up the directions/print them, etc.
Thanks so much for your advice!
