I don’t wear underwear except when I am on my period. My Darling Husband refers to it as “going commando.” While I am massively comfortable, I’m worried it is hampering my ability to check my cervical fluid properly.
Does anyone else not wear underwear and check their CM? Do I need to suck it up and start wearing underwear? Are my commando days over?

@justelope: I don’t wear underwear a lot after a bout of contact dermatitis on my vulva (sorry probably Too Much Information too! and here comes some more:) and I usually just check cm by washing my hands and reaching up there (I also check cervical position, so has to go up there anyways! So no, I don’t think you need to resume wearing underwear, as long as you’re comfortable checking it other ways. I also use a mirror sometimes and do kegels. (More TMI? sorry!)

@cowgirlace: good points! maybe i will just be better about the cervical position checks. thanks for the reply! and admitting commando rules!

Not to thread jack but is there a reason you’re supposed to check? If it’s personal feel free to not answer, I just didn’t know you were supposed to check that and don’t know why you would need to so I can’t really answer the poll

@pinkgreenandyellow: Checking your cervical mucus is a way to track where you are in your cycle and when you ovulate. Throughout your cycle the consistency and color will change. If you’re trying to get pregnant, knowing when you ovulate and should be fertile can make a huge difference. So if you check daily you can figure out the best times to try for a baby.

@nikkialys: Oh ok that makes sense. Thank you for explaining that.
Good luck to the ladies planning for a baby!!!

Welp. I have no clue about NFP or TTC (except those two acronyms, lol) but I’m all commando everything! If there’s any way you can get away without wearing underwear, I hope you opt for that, lol

I actually reread my Take Charge of Your Fertility Book, and while I have been temping for the last two months the book emphasized that CM was actually the most powerful predictor.

Too Much Information alert:
Check internally. It’s how I check, and the only way I get any kinda accurate information about what’s going on. So doesn’t matter if you don’t wear the big girl pants.

@canadablue: I second this!
This thread is hilarious (not in a mean way!) I love that there truly is no such thing as Too Much Information on the TTC boards 😉 We really talk about EVERYTHING and I love it!

I always wondered how you could go commando if you had stuff coming out – does it wind up on your trousers?

My SIL is like myself and never wears underwear. She has a one year old and just gotten PG with her second So no. I don’t not believe that it hurts ur ability to TTC.

@justelope: Internal checker here, too.

Yep, just check internally.
Just a heads up though… At least while I was pregnant, my discharge increased significantly. Going commando would have not been a good option. I’m 4 weeks postpartum now and it’s only been in the past week that I’ve been been able to go to bed without underwear and it’s still gambling with my sheets. Good times. So basically, enjoy your pantiless time while you can. 😉
