Hi ladies, I have an upcoming hair trial and I am clueless when it comes to the salon. Hopefully some more fashionable bees can help me out here. Do I need to wash my hair before I get to the salon? (I wash my hair nightly, shampoo only) Thanks bees!

i was told to wash my hair the day before the trial and the hair is easier to work with

Check with your stylist. Normally they like the hair to be dirty because it’s easier to style. Fresh, clean hair just won’t hold curl and what-not as well.

I was first told that I should wash it the morning of. Then was chastised for washign my hair. So, call your stylist. :/ Sorry I couldn’t provide a better answer.

I was told not to wash my hair for two days before

If you are getting an updo or curls, it’s best not to wash your hair the day of (or too close to your appointment). These styles actually hold a bit better if you hair isn’t squeaky clean.

@housebee: I would wash it at night and then not wash it the next morning before the trial.
Usually dirty hair is preferred because it makes hairdos stick more, but they also have products that can give your hair the messy/textured look, so I wouldn’t worry about it too much.
I wash my hair daily and feel gross when I don’t, so I probably would wash my hair beforehand… at least the night before.

@greenviolets: I tried calling my stylist and she’s out of town, the first day she gets back is the day I see her 🙁
Thanks for all the responses, I think I probably shouldn’t wash my hair the day of. So glad I’m doing a trial though, I would’ve never thought of these things otherwise lol.

You shouldn’t wash it the day of because it will hold better with some oil/dirt in your hair. Squeaky clean hair doesn’t hold style/curls as well. I believe that’s the normal answer anyway. I think you would be fine washing it the day beforehand (in the afternoon/night if you wish).
Since it’s only a trial you can see how well it holds up washing the night before and then you will know for your wedding day.

@housebee: the easy part is that if you go with dirty hair and she wants it clean… She can wash it. Boom!! 😉

I would just wash it the night before. I’ve also heard that really clean hair is harder to style.

Since you’re a nighttime showerer, just continue with that. I’m a morning showerer and couldn’t fathom skipping a day – oh the horror! My hair gets too oily on day 2. But if you’re good to go, just stick with what you’re used to.

@WillyNilly: good point! Dirty it is, lol.

@hisprettygirl: Same here.
This “dirty hair holds better” thing is bullshit. I have lots of very thick hair that looks and feels awful and doesn’t not style for anything if it isn’t freshly washed and blow dryed. I can’t not wash my hair–I feel disgusting and my face gets gross and oily, even if I shower but don’t wash my hair. I’ll give my stylist the option of washing/drying for me or I’ll wash and dry at home.
