lol, I think you really want to not do them. I only see a no choice for the poll ๐Ÿ™‚

They are not required, but if most of your guests will have to travel to the wedding, it is a nice way to give them a heads up, so they can start planning to be there ๐Ÿ™‚

EDIT: I just noticed you were able to add the yes ๐Ÿ™‚

I didnt do it. But like you said everyone knew the date. most people these days have facebook and have seen me write it somewhere on facebook… to me it would just be a waste of money. I’ve sent out my invites and only got 6 declines so far and have gotten back I think 73 (out of 288)

In New Zealand it is not very common to do them at all.

We weren’t going to but in the end we sent some out that we had made up via e-mail, mainly for the overseas guests but we decided to just send them to everyone.

I feel like a couple of factors come into play where you should definitely do them

    1. Your wedding falls on/or near a holiday i.e. Labor Day weekend, Memorial Day, New Year’s Eve
    2. A lot of your guests are from out of state
    3. To serve as an engagement notice for family and friends you may not speak to or see very often

Otherwise if you can get away with not doing them than why not say no?

I don’t ever see anyone use them around here.   Everyone I want at the wedding (that I am close to, I should say) have known the date since it was set.  If it was a holiday, I may have considered it.   I’m actually kind of hoping we have about 10 guests that can’t come since our numbers are a bit higher than expected.

I think by word of mouth most people will know when your wedding is going to be.  The only reason we got them is because I got 100 for free off of vistaprint.com  If you sign up for their e-mails you will get lots of promotions.  We got 100 postcards for free.

As long as anyone traveling from afar knows and most of your friends/family know… I wouldn’t worry about it.

They were important to me because I LOVE paper goods and mail ๐Ÿ™‚  even though our wedding is soon and 85% of the guests are from the local area.

    I agree with baletrina.

They started to reserve popular dates/seasons. Now I think people do them because they are fun. And there’s nothing wrong with that… but they aren’t necessary, like an invite is!

I don’t think Save-The-Date Cards are something everybody needs. We’re doing Save-The-Date Cards because 80% of our guests are coming from out of town, and my FI’s parents want to give them a heads up to plan their trip.

We didn’t do them and nobody missed them.  Don’t do it if you don’t want to!

We are not doing them, to me it is a waste of money and most of the guests would not get the idea of STD and would think it was the actual invite

I feel like where I am from everyone has gone to sending them out, but I didn’t. For family and the people we are closest to, we told them the date well ahead of time. For everyone else, we will see if they can come once they get the invitation.
