@Anna10-05-2014:  Only if you want to.  I probably wouldn’t, unless I was very close with the bride.

I wouldn’t! Especially since you JUST heard about it!

@Anna10-05-2014:  My general policy is that I can’t attend a shower for whatever reason, I’ll just spend a little more on the wedding gift. You aren’t obligated to give a gift for the shower.

@Anna10-05-2014:  You’re not a bridesmaid? If you were a bridesmaid, I’d probably send a gift. But that’s just me. Otherwise, I don’t think it’s necessary.

You’re never obligated to send a gift, and I’m sure she’ll get plenty of lingerie.  If you wanted to, you could always send a small gift card to where they’re registered at (not the lingerie store, obviously) and mention how excited you are to celebrate at the wedding with them.  I would not do more than that though.

If it’s someone that you don’t know very well (recently I was invited via Facebook to this big shower by someone I barely know and didn’t bother attending or sending a gift) then I think it’s fine not to get something. Especially since it’s something personal like lingerie.

If it was one of my friends (someone I talk to on a semi-regular basis) I would give a card within a couple days saying sorry I couldn’t make it and include a gift card to Victoria’s Secret or a similar store (: That way she can pick out some lingerie for herself and there’s not the risk of getting something too similar to something she already opened at the shower.

Why do you think you HAVE to send a wedding gift to someone if you can’t make the wedding?

No-don’t send a gift.
