Serioulsy, I would file a report with your better business bureau, and post reviews to yelp, the knot, wedding wire, etc! I’m so so sorry you are having to deal with this- she should definitely pay to have it cleaned and repaired at the least, if not to replace the dress entirely if you have time.

I am sorry you had a bad experience with your seamstress. Actually, since she had to take it in, she would have had to take the bodice completely off to take in the sides properly. She would then reattach the bodice to your gown, so I can see where this “hole” would be necessary. Since you weren’t comfortable leaving it with her any longer, she wasn’t able to finish. I don’t know about the stains because they aren’t in your picture and I wasn’t there. I hope you are able to find another seamstress to help you.

Jeez! Do you know if there’s another shop that can repair the hole? I’m sorry that you’re dealing with this. No bride deserves that. I agree that you should report her to the BBB.

She clearly destroyed your dress because she knew you were going elsewhere. I would take her the evidence along with a letter from a “lawyer,” make one up if you don’t know one.  If you do know one, ask them to go with you and act like they are representing you against her and that you want all your money back.  It’s doubtful you will get compensation from this lady for the damage.  She will deny it was her.  Finally, keep posting reviews.  Oh, and you should definintely try to report her business to the IRS!  She probably is avoiding taxes by asking for cash only… explain that this happened to you and that she works out of her home so you are suspicious, especially b/c she leaves customers no recourse if she damages the items.  Maybe you can get her in some trouble!

Where did you end up getting your dress fixed? I found a dress out of town that I like, but it needs alterations.  So, I am looking for a good place to get it done in the Reno area.

Thanks.

I just have to say that I think this is likely one of Betty Jayne’s competitors. I almost skipped going to her – opting instead to check out Alterations Connection on Virginia. The owner of the establishment was rude to both my fiance and I.

I called Betty Jayne who fit me in within a day and beautifully altered my wedding gown over the course of the next few weeks for my destination wedding.

She has a plaque in her home 9she works fr. home) from the city of reno and also works with some of the physician’s at Saint’s (where I work). I was nothing but impressed and incredibly grateful for her work.

I’m glad you found someone else to fix your dress. Where did you find the first seamstess?
