Ugh, this would not surprise me at all. We have a couple shady family members who absolutely “had” to be invited and, not going to lie, this did cross my mind. We got a card box and are sealing it up really good. At the end of the night we will just cut into the bottom to get the cards out.

Our card box is pretty sturdy….once the card goes in the slit it’s not coming out even if you shake it.

Yeah all the boxes I see have just those little slots in em, but I think theyre kind of ugly. I just got a basket thats all woodsy and mossy… completely open on top, but it matches my cnterpieces and other details in my reception… I’m hoping that the people I invited are all trustworthy enough that they won’t develop sticky fingers!

Curious if anyone really honestly had this problem… and what size party they had? Because my party’s under 100 and I know pretty mch everyone.

I have heard of people stealing wedding cards!  I would get something really safe.  Thankfully no one stole any of ours (that we know of).

I have heard of this happening at larger weddings where not all the guests are really close to the couple or it’s really large.

Also at hotel venue’s I’ve heard of guests at the hotel stealing the entire cardbox.

I’d get a box that is large and cannot easily be opened to retrieve cards from until after the wedding!

My brother in law got his jacket stolen at another cousin’s wedding, so I woudn’t put it past some people to steal the cards since those have actual money in them.

I’ve heard that sometimes you have to watch for the venue staff more than the guests!

I think card and gift theft happens more when you’re in a “public” venue- a hotel with several ballrooms, for example- easier for someone to grab and run.

@FutureMrs86:  I would hope that they wouldn’t do something like that, but FI’s cousin has been known to dabble in drugs and has been in jail for it. Has also stolen from friends and family members. Said Cousin is supposidly “clean” but I don’t put anything past him.

I didn’t think people did but we have a card missing. My BIL swears on a stack of bibles that he saw a coworker of DH’s lay a card on the card table (we had a card box so I’m not sure why he didn’t stick it in there) but when we went through the cards there was nothing from this coworker. Makes me worry that someone might have lifted a card or two…
