We didn’t have an engagement party. My mom had mentioned throwing one at one point, but never did. We only received a few congratulatory cards in the mail.

I don’t send engagment cards and I’ve never been to an engagement party (none of my married friends have had them).

I think you may need to let this one go.

We didn’t have an engagement party, but we did receive cards from both sets of parents, and even some gifts from close friends.

We got one card in the mail from a coworker. No party. I’m cool with it lol

I send them now, but that’s only b/c I received like 10 or 12 when we got engaged (I really didn’t know they existed/people did that before!).  However, they were all either from my friends/fam or our co-workers, DH’s side did not send any.  I think it’s a location thing and what’s the norm for that location and your group of friends. Same thing with engagement party; my girlfriends threw a low-key, very sweet, gathering.

Do you normally send them to people you know who got engaged?

@aggiemae:  Depending on the nature of my relationship with the couple in question….friendly/professional acquaintances recieve a card, ansillary friends and family receive a card with some gift card to a restaurant, very good friends will be treated to a bottle of champagne and toasting flutes, my closest friends and family will receive the card, the gift card, the champagne, the flutes and either a night out to dinner on us, or a small, initmate engagement party…their choice, of course…

Not really.

The only people we got them from were aged 75+.

We got a few in the mail after we got engaged, which like a PP said I didn’t even know engagement cards even exisited (lol).  No party, since we don’t socialize a lot where we live and my family/friends are all in another state.  We’re totally cool with it, lol.

We didn’t have an engagement party and I was okay with that. Trust me, there will be plenty of celebrating as the big day gets closer! A couple of friends sent me engagement cards, and I try to send them when friends get engaged, but I’d say they’re definitely not standard.

In other words — no need to be upset! 🙂 Just enjoy this time!

@aggiemae:  When did you get engaged?  To answer your question, I do send cards (I love cards!) but most people don’t.

I don’t think it’s as popular to send cards any more unfortunately. We only got 3 in the mail! But one bouquet of flowers delivered which I thought was such a nice touch, and I’ll remember it forever 🙂

I think we got one card, if that. No party or celebration, beside our own “mini” celebration I insisted on Innocent
