We didn’t have a party and only received three cards but I didn’t expect much.

@MrsTVLover:  +1 this!

OP, I see where you are comng from and why you would ask. Yes, I would also have liked more acknowledgement or a card (not so much a party) was fine without acknoweldgement but I wish this was the custom because its what I do, send them and wedding/elopement cards but I think I’m in the minority. Got lots of Facebook love though ;] haha.

@aggiemae: I got a few cards in the mail from family members. Don’t take it personally if you don’t, though…most people just aren’t into sending cards in the mail anymore. As for an engagement party? Some couples have them, but they’re usually just small family gatherings, nothing fancy.

Yes! We got about 10-15. They were mainly from relatives.

My grandmother was the only one that sent a card and flowers. I was SO touched I cried. It was ONLY THEN my mom sent a card. No offers of engagement party. My godmother was more curious about HER invite but no card. No cards since.

One of my dearest friends, early on, before I made her a Maid/Matron of Honor, offered to throw me a shower and I cried. It meant sooo much! But only then did my godmother say she wanted to throw one.

When my gf’s got engaged I always sent cards. Oh well. i guess everyone has their own way of being supportive. My parents have bought everything so far.

I think what you are describing sounds very normal.  We’ve gotten 4-5 engagement cards, but only from our dearest friends.  My parents and siblings did hold a mini-engagement surprise dinner in our honor, but it was an immediate family only event with about 12 people in their home.  It was intimate, special, and made us feel very loved. We had no idea they were going to do that, and they did it about two months after we got engaged without saying a word ahead of time.  Give people a little time, and maybe they will surprise you with a special note, card, lunch , etc.

We got butkus (aka nothing). Barely a congrats from my parents and it took my best friend 3 months to even make time to stop by and see my ring. Needless to say I have been dissappointed by everyone peeing on my parade.
