my bm dresses do not match the groomsmen vests, but they compliment eachother.  my mom thought if i did matching, it would look too much like prom

No, they don’t have to match.  You can do whatever you want.

My wedding colors are pink and green.  I was very adamant about wanting the girls to be in blush pink dresses and the guys to not wear any pink at all.  Guys in pink vests just screams bad prom to me.  The groom will wear a black tuxedo with white shirt, white vest, and white pocket handkerchief.  The groomsmen will wear black tuxes with white shirt, black vest, and green pocket handkerchief.  I think it’ll be beautiful!

Mine do not match, but elements match and they all share aspects of the wedding colors. I don’t like things too matchy-matchy

My girls are wearing purple and his guys will be in black tuxes and turqouise vests and ties. I love the different colors, its a nice contrast.

My bridesmaids are wearing black chiffon gowns with fuschia shoes and the groomsmen are wearing tuxedos with a black vest and a fuschia windsor tie for the pops of color. My fiance will be wearing a black vest and a black tie.
