My Maid/Matron of Honor opted for a Ipod and playlist and it was just chaotic. No one knew where to be, when to do what etc. She really needed someone with a microphone to take charge and tell the guests what to do etc. Her wedding was about 40 people and even then it was awkward without directions.
You don’t necessarily need a DJ if you can find someone to take this role. It is just a huge help especially if you are having a large wedding.

For me, yes, I can’t imagine NOT having one. It’s just one less thing to stress about on the big day – I don’t want to have to worry about who’s announcing what, the music or speakers malfunctioning, etc.

After talking to a lot of people and reading through all the responses to this thread I just thought I’d let you all know we’ve decided to go with a DJ. More for the peace of mind than anything else!

Yes!!! DJ is a Must!!! For U that is!! Im a firm believer in enjoying ur day to the MAX! Ive heard a few horror stories too for IPod weddings, but someone very close to me had a successful IPod wedding! but for me, im def having a DJ, itll help U not stress about making sure the songs are right, and that way ur brother can enjoy ur wedding too! He’s someone very close to u, so i think he should be enjoying and making sure others are having a good time, instead of at some corner manning the music… With a DJ/MC it helps U concentrate on all the other things that will be going thru ur mind that day… One less thing to worry about!! and will give u more time to enjoy all the other beautiful things about ur wedding!!

I’ve been the iPod DJ at a wedding when I was 14 for someone who wasn’t that close to me. If I can do it when I’m 14, I think anyone can. I totally got compliments the whole time!!! And had a blast. I’ve been to a wedding with a bad DJ too and it reallllly ruined things. He was cheesy and played lame music and he was actually RUDE at the end of the night, cut things off really abruptly so we just went to the bars. hahahah.

You absolutely should hire a DJ! We booked with BK Event Productions in the Carolinas, and it made a HUGE DIFFERENCE!!! My sister tried the iPod road, and it was a wreck — nobody danced & it was kind of awkward. Plus it added so much stress to her day. When I used BK Event Productions, their planner Chelsea helped me with my song choices and then created a planner for us. PLUS they came and set up amazing sound system at the ceremony and reception site. PLUS they did the uplighting for us in a package deal so our reception was freaking beautiful!! The DJ was so nice and really made us feel comfortable – in fact we had the dance floors full all night. First hand I can say you need to hire a DJ. It could make your big day so much more enjoyable! 😀
