I found a decent priced reverend on craigslist who lives about an hour from us. It looks like he’s been doing weddings for a while and I plan on setting up a meeting to make sure he is ordained.
He charges $75 for the ceremony but because of the traveling it would be $125, he then offered to do the ceremony and rehearsal for $175 and the ceremony, rehearsal, and pre meeting before the wedding for $225. I’m assuming that the pre meeting is just to go over the readings and whatnots. I was thinking about just the ceremony and the pre meeting becuase I don’t think we really need him for the rehearsal.Did anyone else NOT have a rev for their rehearsal? Did it go okay? Should I pay the extra $50 just to have him there? We’re on a tight budject and this is cheap compared to others who want $350+

I think it would be beneficial to have him there for the rehearsal. Is there a way you could have him come like an hour early to the rehearsal and you and him go over things then? That way he would only have to travel for the rehearsal and the wedding ceremony?
I think going over the readings and such can be done via email. Actually being involved in a reheasal with all the people there is harder to forego.

I agree. I would cut the pre-meeting. Also, if you go on Montgomery County’s web site (the part with the info on marriage license) you can do a search to make sure he is ordained.

We didn’t have a rehearsal at all. Our rabbi just told us what to do about 10 minutes before the wedding. It went fine.

I was in a wedding last month that the officiant did not come to the rehersal. Everything went perfectly smoothly. I think just as long as you discuss things either on the phone or before the ceremony begins you will be fine, especially if he has done a lot of weddings before.
