Left lane is for passing only in my state but I hate when I get over to pass people but then someone going 90 gets on my ass. Sorry buddy I AM passing people but I’m not gunning it because you want to 20 over.

I’m one of those who will drive in the left lane if my exit or turn is on the left. I’m typically on city streets so its not as expected like it is on the interstate here. In my experience, no one will let me over from the right lane to make a left turn so for my own peace of mind, I drive in the lane I need to get to my destination. This is the same for when I did have to drive on interstate, exits are on both sides of the road so I would stay in the middle lane as long as I could, then get in the lane I will need as soon as I can. I can’t control whether or not whoever is in that lane will let me in exactly when I need to and instead of getting myself pissed off at strangers, I changed how I drive to alleviate my stress. I used to get such bad road rage and changing my perspective on it all helped a lot.

It is a law in California that you have to move over if there is a car going faster behind you. You may travel in the left lane, but you must move over if you are the slower vehicle. Google is your friend people.

I frequently drive in the left lane, but do get over if someone behind me wants to go faster.

motherbee33 :  as someone who lives in Toronto, I’m laughing at how you think “the right lane is where you’re supposed to be.” That makes no sense. I hope you take the TTC more than drive because I’m afraid to share the road with ignorant people like yourself.

Also, there is no need to “warm up” modern day vehicles. Just don’t rev the hell out of it or redline it before the oil is up to temp. Normal driving is perfectly fine.

caligirlinmichigan :  Yes, totally! I hadn’t heard the “no driving in the left lane” law until I was in college and met people from out of state. I’ve been behind cops that drive in the left lane for miles, haha

I’ve seen “left lane for passing only” signs in very rural areas. But in general, left lane is for driving more quickly and middle/right lanes are a bit slower because of merging/exiting. So yes, I drive in the left lane all the time. That’s what it is generally there for in the areas I’ve lived in.

Now when it’s a passing only area, I would never dare drive in it. I take that super seriously! Haha.

I remember listening to my husband say that the left lane is just for passing not driving and I thought he was just wrong or a bad driver but apparently it’s the law in places lol californiasun :
