I’m not a cake fan…give me a cookie, a brownie, some pie, cheesecake (cheesecake is not cake), tiramisu, bread pudding – almost any type of dessert is more interesting. I feel like it’s a symbolic thing that people might expect and I guess I don’t mind having one; I just don’t care about it. My reception venue is a restaurant and I was planning to just tell them to make a small cake that looks more or less like a wedding cake and make it taste good (as good as cake can taste). But will people even miss a cake if there are other desserts? I looked at past threads about cake apathy and was surprised by how many people mention not caring for cake and cite the tables of untouched cake slices they’ve seen at weddings. Is everyone just walking around pretending to like cake? I mean when’s the last time you ordered dessert at a restaurant and asked for…cake. Right?? (Wrong?) What do you really think about cake?

I LOVE cake.
Cake, mmmmmmm…… not even picky about what kind, either.
I rarely order dessert out.
However, I would definitely feel totally ripped off if there were no wedding cake or cupcakes at a wedding. Sorry to say, it’s one of the most looked-forward-to things for me.

@Ms.Meghann: but it now seems that I may be the odd one out
Maybe! Maybe not! I wanted to do a poll because I figured past threads about cake apathy may have been dominated by self-selecting cake haters (or cake don’t-carers).

Cake and ice cream? OMG…..I am pretty much an any type of dessert person. There really isn’t anything sweet I don’t like, though my mom likes fruit cake..gag, no thanks. I made my top tier pistachio, and other than my step dad, who I know loves pistachios, I probably won’t share with anyone else 🙂

eh… I think I am with you, I don’t mind cake. If there were a display of desserts around me and cake was an option I could probably not bring my self to choose it, but I will eat it. I am guilty of not eating cake at weddings. Personally I think the dessert buffet is one of the greatest inventions EVER! DH doesn’t like cake either which is why we had a small cake and a LOT of brownie pops

I love cake! And nothing is more disappointing to me than bad cake at a wedding. 🙁
To be honest, in a race between “bad cake” and “good non-cake dessert” I’d pick the latter. But nothing beats a good slice of cake!

I’m not a huge cake person, but I think my wedding cake is to die for (fresh fruit filling = yum!). I was just at a wedding with dry yellow cake and overly sweet white icing. I’ll pass on that, thank you very much.

I’m anti-cake. My poor Mom always had to make ice-cream cakes for my birthday. But my fiancé loves cake. I think were going to have some cake & some cookies. I love cookies 😉 I think most people would be happy with whatever they get ad long as they get their sugar fix! I just web to a wedding that did fruit tarts & people loved it!

I voted “I love cake” but a more accurate description of my feelings is “I love GOOD cake.” Some cake is dry, tasteless, and the frosting is like grease. I hate that kind of cake.

@Eglantine I gotta be honest, I love cake and rarely if ever pass up an opportunity to have some.

I LIVE for cake! But I’m definitely picky about the type of cake, and it has to be GOOD/GREAT cake otherwise I won’t eat it. Yes, I’m a cake snob
I think bad (dry, flavorless, boring) wedding cake is one of the reasons many people aren’t thrilled with the concept. But really good wedding cake is truly awesome. For our wedding, my husband and I had 5 cakes, each one a different flavor. They were heavenly!

Good point! Bad cake is simply a waste of calories. I give it one bite, and if it isn’t delectably perfect cake I’m done. Not wasting my calories on bad cake.

True…I’m sure nobody likes bad cake, but I feel like the best cake can’t compare to the best cheesecake or tiramisu or brownie. But the cake lovers are running away with this thing, so I’m glad I asked!!

Cake is made out of pretty much everything that i am allergic too… so nope. Although if my allergies magically disapeared i would prob. eat a whole one to myself just because i could!
