@SoupyCat: I work at an emergency animal clinic at night and sometimes alone while the doctor is asleep in the office. Ive heard things that are unexplainable…a few years ago a corresponding hospital (same building, different practice, but still connected to the general building) used a oujia board to communicate with a spirit that kept turning on/off the radio, turning lights on/off, ext. I guess her name was Maria, she was 9, and lived on a farm (this area used to be orchards/farm land). They repeated the seance a few months later and asked if the person they were communicating with was Maria and they go a firm “No”. After that they put the board away for good.

@SoupyCat: Does anyone think animals become ghosts too? I would like to think so, that I would see my pets again.

I do!  I haven’t had any person experiences with it, but I have heard of people who “feel” the cat jump up on the bed or whatever, or see or hear their pets.  I would really like to see mine that have passed!  I also think it would freak my out less than seeing a person or shadow figure.  I always say if that happened, I would pee my pants!

OK, honestly, I am so freaked out right now. I have never had a paranormal expeience, but reading abut how many have, it kind of gives me the creeps.

The closest thing I have experienced, but in no way is this close to what other bee’s have said, is that me and my sister used to joke that we had a ghost named Ronald (IDK why we picked that name) in the house. My room(and my room only) would always be ice cold, even in the summer. But my house was new when my parents bought it, so its not like there were previous tennants. I have also gotten just bizarre feeings there before, as if someone else was present.

I was just there yesterday at night, and was in my old room, the lights weren’t working because my shelf always randomly fell off the wall and this last time it broke the lamp, and my miror faced the doorway. I was afraid to look into the mirror, because I had an overwheming feeling that I would see someone or something.

Regarding animal spirits. I believe they can haunt you if it’s an animal you had a particularly strong connection with.

I got a cat when I was in the 3rd grade. He had been the runt of the littler, rejected by his mother and hand fed until he was strong enough to adopt out. He truely thought he was human, I think. He was the best mannered cat I’ve ever had.

When I was 20, we had to have him put down. He had many health problems due to overbreeding. For years we had to give him daily doses of heart medication and a laxative as he had heart and digestive problems. Both my mother and I were incredibly attached to him.

For a couple nights after having him put down (due to a blood clot in his spine that paralyzed him from the waist down and caused him horrible pain) I would have these very vivid dreams. They were always in my bedroom at my parents house. He would come in and meow at me wanting to get in my lap. It was so overwhelming to me that in my dream I would be screaming and crying at him that he was dead and he shouldn’t be here. Even thinking about this now is making me weepy. I don’t know if he was saying goodbye or what, but upon having one of the dreams I would wake up in tears.

I have way, way too many stories I could tell, beginning from when I was a child.

If you have spirits in the house, the question is are they “good” or “bad” or simply there? For example I invite the presence  of my Native American ancestors by hanging turkey feathers in trees near the house (our ancestors on my father’s side came from the Turkey band of the Lenni Lenape). On the other hand, I took a great deal of care to perform a spiritual house cleansing, which involved smudging, amongst other things, followed by a house blessing.I really did not feel like dealing with any previous occupants.

It is often possible to deal with spirits/ghosts. Most are not harmful and are simply there, sometimes prayers and explaining they are dead and it’s your turn to live there is enough. Do be aware that playing with Ouija and the like can open doors to opportunistic spirits that are not so nice. Negative enties feed off of negative feelings, especially fear and anger.

Animals are said to be able to perceive spirits and deceased pets are known to visit their beloved humans after death. I have had several of my beloved cats “visit” after death. Although my daughter (she died 10 years ago) has never manifested, she was fond of playing tricks on her Aunt and myself. Apparently it was going on for some time before her Aunt and I compared notes and discoverd she was having fun with both of us!

However, in general, I do not devote a lot of attention to spirits and the like. As a biologist, I prefer to simply ask for protection as necessary and focus on the wonders of three-dimensional life. I’ll check out the other dimensions later.

My grandmom always had this saying ” the devil hides things” and id laugh and think my grandmom was a lil looney… have you ladies ever lost something ie a jewelry piece, an important document, your keys, your remote…? And you look for it carefully everywhere you can and not find it. Then eithet you or someone else finds it in a spot where you are 100% you searched carefully. Youll dismiss it and say “oh well”. My grandmom says thats the devil hiding it from you. Now i dont know if thats actually the devil lol but something? Def!

I love these threads!  Hopefully once I post my experience, it will get the ball rolling and more people will keep posting.  Especially since it’s September now and almost spooky October

So I’m from the mountains of North Carolina and there is a small tourist town known for being very affluent.  It’s super small, like 1 main road with shops and a park, but it’s right on the Blue Ridge Parkway so it’s really popular for uppity hikers.  To get to the point, my friends and I found an abandoned mansion within blocks of downtown.  It’s heavily fenced and you can’t see the house from the road but we were reckless teenagers so we hopped the fence and went to investigate.  The reason I stressed how affluent this town is, is because this property must be worth a fortune.  How can someone afford to let this large property sit vacant? The house is very large, 3 stores and large basement, on probably 10 acres of land.

Okay, sorry, enough of the backstory.  The house is mostly boarded up but my friend broke a window (I just want to say that I completely do NOT condone breaking into houses, we were in high school and extremely STUPID).  So anyways, the house was super freaky.  There were newspapers from the early 90s and it looked like people just up and left one day.  Like toothpaste and toothbrush in the bathroom, towel on the ground outside the shower.  Bed’s were unmade, closets were open, etc.  Walking up the main stairs we all stopped at the same time and said, “Woah, do you guys feel that?”  Our hairs were all sticking up and we all felt uneasy and extremely scared.  We kept going up and started checking out the bedrooms.  There was a little girls room all decked out in pink and lace.  It had one of those beds with a pretty canopy and lots of dolls.  None of us had the balls to go into this room AT ALL.  Like, we were all on the threshold and just thinking, “No way in hell am I going in there.”  It also seemed to feel colder than the other rooms.

We were all sitting in an upstairs lounge/den area when all of a sudden we heard music.  I shit you not, MUSIC.  We went to investigate and a music box had started playing in an adjacent room, that we hadn’t even been in yet.  That was, by far, the scariest thing that happened to us.  Although my guy friend, B, went into the basement and could have sworn he heard breathing.

So, after leaving this house we did some research and found out that it had a very violent history.  Apparently the little girl had been killed somehow and the parents blamed their landscaper/handy-man.  He ended up hanging himself in the stairwell.  And, the scariest places in the house were the stairs and girl’s room. Coincidence? I don’t think so.

So, my guy friend, B, got to be a little obsessed with this house. He broke in several more times and starting taking things.  He took some paintings and this really weird musical instrument that I’ve never seen before.  It was kinda like a guitar but only had one string and was really ornate and carved.  Anyways, B ended up killing himself a couple years later.  He obviously had issues and I’m not saying that the house had anything to do with him tragically ending his life.  I’m just saying that it happened and that maybe his sensitivity was one reason he was attracted to the house.  Sorry, I know this is a really sad ending to what was suppossed to be an entertaining ghost story.  I like to think that B would enjoy being a part of the spooky story though.

Anyone else have experiences with ghosts or haunted houses?
