    It is definitely a mixture of both. I took an animal behavior class and learned that song birds actually develop their ability to sing through nurture, not nature. They did several stages and a control and at different points they would take the fledgeling away from its parents. They found that the little ones that were never around adults singing were never able to sing at all, and the ones taken away after a couple weeks could sing but very poorly or they could only do very small phrases correctly. It was quite interesting so I thought I’d share. I don’t remember the name of the research and my textbook is in storage.

    It is approximately 50/50 overall, and for specific traits, it is sometimes known that one has much more of an impact than the other.

    I’ve always known it was a mixture of both, but before having kids, I was sure that nurture had more influence. Now that my kids are teens, I think nature accounts for much more than realize.
