I’m sure there’s a thread about this somewhere, but I will start a new one.
When a friend, co worker or family member changes their hairstyle, do you normally comment?
I put blonde highlights in my hair on Saturday and had it cut. Today at work the comments have been, ” it looks different” and ” it will take some getting used to!”. Now, whether or not someone likes my hair color doesn’t bother me one bit, but I typically don’t say anything unless I like the change. I also wasn’t asking people if they liked it haha, it was just their .02 cents at the water cooler! So…. What do you do?

I always notice and I ALWAYS say something nice about it, good manners and great hair, it’s all you really need.

If you’re going blonde from a dark color, it CAN take some getting used to.. I don’t think that was rude at all. 🙂
Anyways, yeah I’ll normally go, “Oh, you cut your hair!” or “I love that new color!” or “When did you get your hair dyed?” I won’t say anything negative, and if I like the new change I’ll say it.

I only comment if I like it.

Were these guys? I feel like that’s a very guy-thing to say “it looks different.” Don’t worry about it!! Only take the opinions of your friends and family.

I notice and will usually say something if I like it. If I don’t, unless it is my best friend (the WTH did you do to your head kind of BF) then best to say nothing.

I say something if I like the change. If I don’t, I just pretend that I don’t notice and move on..

I only say something if I notice and it looks good… but I actually don’t notice that often >.<**

I always notice and always say something nice. To me it is part of making people feel special.

If you can’t say anything nice, you shouldn’t say anything at all. At least, that’s what I learned from watching Bambi as a kid 🙂

If i notice, I ALWAYS comment. And a nice comment. I like to think that noticing makes that person feel good!

I voted I just dont like people. Because I dont. I’m feeling cranky this morning.
But on a serious note, I notice, but my mouth sometimes acts before my brain lets me know if its a good idea or not, so I usually end up saying something that the person doesnt want to hear.
Like a few weeks ago, one of my regular customers cut off her hair. All of it. Like 2 inches (if that) all over, but she kept her bangs, so she had short short hair and big huge poofy bangs. I just sort of stared without saying something and then when she asked if I liked it I just kinda went “WHAT DID YOU DO?!” Not the answer she was looking for.

@BuffaloDots: ha no the guys have all actually been very complimentary!
@missmorganista: I didn’t think it was rude at all, just a little odd! I’m naturally dark haired but I play around with highlights quite a bit. I just went a shade lighter than the last caramel-ish and red that is already in my hair.

If I feel like making conversation I usually just say “Did you do something? Looks nice” smile and walk away. People seem to like that.

If it’s quite drastic then I will comment. Usually if I don’t like it then I’ll say “it looks really different, it’s nice to have a change” If I like it then I say I like it. I assume no one really gives a flying france about my opinion anyway
