I dreamed about a completely laidback, not super romantic proposal, but what I got was super romantic.  He proposed to me while we were in Florence for New Years.  On the Ponte Vecchio, apparently there is a tradition among couples to place a lock on the bridge and then throw the keys into the Arno River for everlasting love.  FI did a lot of research to know all of this!  I didn’t know anything about this.  Anyway, there is one statue on the bridge where most people put the locks.  Before we left for Florence, Fiance had a lock engraved to say “Miss Olive, I love you so much, Will you marry me?” in Italian.  I guess on the first or second day we were in Florence he snuck it onto the fence around this statue on the Ponte Vecchio.  For the rest of the trip he was slipping me hints about the tradition, and he had a waiter bring keys over that were engraved with our initials (I still did not think Fiance had anything to do with this–I thought the waiter was just weird and the letters on the keys were a fluke).  On a couple of mornings we went for jogs over to the Ponte Vecchio and I guess every time Fiance was waiting on me to find the lock!  Finally, on New Years morning we went for a run to the Ponte Vecchio and I made it my mission to find the lock.  I must be completely daft because I still had no idea this was part of a proposal (which I was definitely expecting).  He had to direct me to the lock with hot and cold cues.  When I found it, I read it and turned around to face him and said “Really?!” Then he proposed, we threw the keys into the Arno, and he gave me the ring!  I think after this he got down on one knee because he had forgotten to do it earlier.  It was all very romantic!

I didn’t really want an over-the-top romantic proposal. It’s just not who we are. The boy proposed to me on Christmas day in front of his family. It was very simple and perfect.

Neither of us are romantic, but I DO keep dreaming about a nice, simple, low key proposals. My SO sounds like your boy Huneebee, not the most romantic… but I think I love him more because of that 🙂

I think I want something–not just turning to me while we’re watching TV or anything. But I HIGHLY doubt I will get anything on the level of Miss Olive (that’s seriously one of the most romantic stories I’ve ever heard!) like you, HuneeBee, my Boyfriend or Best Friend is seriously lacking in the romance department. I think the best I can hope for is at after a nice dinner on a walk or something.

Which is still better than my actual night time dreams where I’ve dreamed of two proposals (both in the last week!) one where right after he gave me the ring he said: “I’m only doing this because I have to.” (Yikes!) and the other he was happy to propose but the ring was HIDEOUS. (A huge spiral type ring, with a brown stone. I can’t even describe it!)

I honestly have no idea how he is going to do it. He and his two best friends got together for one of their proposals and planned it all out and Im sure they will do the same for mine. He could propose with a twist tie and id be happy.

We where just given a gift card to the restaurant where we had our first date. We went to dinner and then walked on the pier. So I imagine reliving our first date and him popping the question on the pier. BUT we are also going to Vegas in three weeks…and like Fushia I cannot imagine being all dressed up in front of the Bellagio fountains and him not take advantage of the moment…(((sigh))).

What a great thread 🙂

@Miss Olive — how sweet!!!

I am fantasizing about tomrorow.. I just opened a fortune cookie at lunch and it said “Tomorrow will be lucky and memorable for you”

Hmm..

Who knows? We are fairly simple people but I’d like to think I will get at least something halfway romantic. He’s thoughtful, though.. So I’m not expecting something over the top, just simple and sweet.

And yes, I had a dream once that he proposed with a hideous, huge 4 carat-ish, fake 25 cent ring!

I always thought he’d do SOMETHING romantic… but nope… he put the ring on my finger while we were laying on the couch. I was SHOCKED because we hadn’t looked at rings in over a year and hadn’t really talked about it. I was so shocked I didn’t even CRY. I cry everytime there’s a proposal on tv but didn’t cry for my own :-s
