As I was pondering another question I wanted to post, I came up with this one.
Whether you work 9-5 or the night shift and everything in between, do you have beer, wine or a mixed drink before going into work, whether it’s before your start time or during lunch?
I was having to drink this gross orange juice and I got in the habit of putting Malibu in it (I usually drank it after I was home) but one morning I decided to have a cup and out of habit I almost put in Malibu and I thought “Oh, geez, I’m going into work.” I know sometimes you have luncheons and whatnot where you can drink (I think, we don’t have them where I am- I’m basing this on movies I’ve seen!). I’ve been told when you work in a bar, you drink but what about an office job?

lol i wish. i have an office job and we had a luncheon the other day and my boss ordered a beer. it was kind of strange! he’s taking me and a coworker to lunch sometime and he was like “this is going to be a liquid lunch, right? we’re going to have some real drinks!” uhh… whatever you say, boss man. that’s kind of weird though!!

I think we are technically allowed to have 1 beer or 1 glass of wine at lunch. I had a beer at lunch once and I think it was a Friday before 4th of July or Memorial day when the office was completely dead.

When i waited tables, I didn’t go in until 4:30 or 5:00 and sometimes i’d lay out and have a beer on the lake. But with my current job, that’d put me drinking at uh, 6:30 am. That’s just too early for liquor =]. Plus you could totally get fired.

We used to go out once a month for a liquid lunch. We wouldn’t have more than a beer.
I have been tempted when I work from home, especially on sunny Friday afternoons in the summer.

I used to have a job where I could drink at lunch. But it wasn’t something I did regularly. Maybe once or twice a year if I met a friend for lunch, I might just have a glass of wine.
But I haven’t done that a while. I suppose I could if I wanted to, but I’ve never been a big drinker and the older I get, the more likely a glass of wine at lunch will make me sleepy in the afternoon.

Nope lol. I weight about 100 lbs so one glass of wine and I’m pretty tipsy.

My boss is a drinker, so whenever he takes me out to lunch (once or twice a month), we usually both grab a bloody mary! But I would never get drunk or pop open a cool one while sitting at my desk, lol.

I am in academia and everyone drinks with lunch often!
I often don’t drink because it makes me less productive in the afternoon but I do when we go out on fridays!

I have actually sat down at my desk with a beer. In my defense, it was after our monthly staff meeting during which they GIVE us the beer. I was sticking around to get some more work done and allow my body to metabolize the alcohol a bit more before I drove home. I cannot imagine popping a beer or pouring a glass of wine while working!
If we go out to lunch with a client, no one will mind one beer or glass of wine, but it won’t be reimbursed and so no one ever ends up doing that.

Never been able to have a drink while at work. Once had after work drinks with my old branch manager and former supervisor. But definitely way off work hours.

I wish! haha
that’s pretty awesome that some of you have such laid-back work environments, I’m jealous

I’m sure we COULD at lunch so long as it didn’t effect our work (9-5). I just wouldn’t want to. It would make me sleepy and unable to focus – the work day is long enough without feeling crappy.
Even when I was a Go-go dancer and working at a bar I would have the bartenders make me “fake” shots when customers wanted to buy me some – no way I could drink and dance well for 4 hrs.

At my old job we had an attorney who would take us out to fancy smanchy lunches that lasted about 2hours, 4 courses and of course the appropriate wines with each …. and while it was fun and something different it sucked having to go back to the office.
