I’m curious about the answers to this question. Darling Husband has always assumed that people who are married only sleep on the couch when someone is upset so he really hates when I do it. However, I’ve always found it to be an oddly comforting thing to do somethings, change up my sleep location. I did it on and off throughout college and really thoughout my entire life. I’ve been sick with bronchitis and haven’t been getting much sleep because I’ve been up with a cough. I’ve been in bed for a few days (because I had the flu first….yay fun!) and am so freaking sick of the bed. So last night I decided to sleep on the couch. Not to mention that our couch is insanely comfortable. Does anyone else do this?

we both will fall asleep on the couch during the weekend and then we are way too lazy to walk up stairs at 2am!
I also would do this when I lived by myself.

I sleep on the couch when I’m sick. I don’t really know why, but that’s what I’ve done as long as I remember so it’s comforting. I also sleep on the couch if I fall asleep there, or if my SO isn’t home. I hate sleeping in our bed alone, so I sleep on the couch.

My Fiance snores so sometimes if he wakes me up in the middle of the night then I will go get on the couch not out of anger.. just so I can sleep 🙂

I fall asleep on the couch every so often, but Mr. HC wakes me up to go into the bed. I sleep on the couch when he’s on call overnight, so that the tv keeps me company, because we don’t have one in our bedroom, but the only time I have ever slept on the couch when Mr. HC has been home was when I had a really bad stomach bug and was constantly up throughout the night/couldn’t sleep so I wanted the tv…otherwise, I wouldn’t sleep on the couch when Mr. HC is home

I never sleep on the couch. I’m kinda neurotic and can only sleep in my own bed. Fiance will occasionally fall asleep on the couch watching tv if I’m already in bed.

Very rarely…..like if I fall asleep while watching TV. But if one of us falls asleep on the couch, usually the other one wakes up in the middle of the night to collect the missing partner and bring them back to bed. IDK…we both really like sleeping next to each other, and it feels weird not to if we are both in the same house. Now, when Fiance is away and if it is the weekend, then yeah, I totally just crash on the couch.

I work nights and my husband works Sunday mornings at 5am so Saturday nights when I’m trying to get somewhat back into the routine for the next night I’ll sleep on the couch so I don’t bother him right before he has to get up. It also gives him one night’s sleep without the animals a week. An additional bonus is that on the couch I’ll actually get up to say goodbye to him. We never sleep apart otherwise though when both of us our home. I totally sleep on the couch though if I’m home alone at night because it’s more comforting.

I used to fall asleep on the couch every night, wake up in the middle of the night, and head up to bed–this was when I lived with my parents and when Fiance and I started living together. Now if I’m on the couch and I start to feel my eyes closing, I just go to bed.

I LOVE sleeping on the couch. When I lived alone I think I slept more often there than in my bed, even though my condo at the time was so tiny, it was only literally 3 steps away! I love to roll over, face to the cushions and listen to TV and sleep. I don’t know why but I like the OP find it very comforting.
Now that I live with my S.O he hates it when I sleep on the couch. If I fall asleep there and he tries to wake me, i am so grumpy he ends up leaving me there. But I hear about it the next morning. He gets mad at me and thinks he’s done something wrong! Geesh.
He goes away a lot with his work and sometimes for long periods of time (hes in the Army) and I sleep almost every night on the couch while he’s gone. (spooning our dog) lol

Pretty much the only time I sleep on the couch is if I fall asleep there because Im sick or if Darling Husband and I have a sleepover. Ever since we had our first apartment together we occasionally have “sleepovers” where we bring all our bedding into the living room and stay up watching TV and sleep on the couch.

@PitBulLover: That’s awesome! My SO and I do that too! 🙂

Only when we’re watching football. I always fall asleep for at least 3 quarters of the game, and Fiance wakes me up when it’s over! It’s the best naptime ever 🙂

It’s not an issue if one of us sleeps in the other room, or on the couch, if we’re sick, snoring, etc.
What’s not okay is when Darling Husband falls asleep on the couch on a weeknight after he’s said he’s tired and dozed off half a dozen times — it drives me nuts!! I’m like, “if you’re tired, go to sleep!” 🙂

I voted “never” but I guess I didn’t think about when I’m sick. When Darling Husband is sick I will sleep on the couch both so that he has room to spread out and also so that I don’t catch it!
But other than that, no. I never feel as well rested when I’ve slept on a couch as in a bed, even if I fall asleep on the couch I always get up and go to bed as soon as I realize I’m sleeping. Even when we’re mad we generally talk it out before bed, I can’t ever sleep when Im’ angry.
