I voted yes..my engagment and wedding planning is brining out an even worse side of my future Mother-In-Law. It’s wonderful, NOT! I have found that just nodding, smiling and ignorning is working best to get me though it:)

Not in my wedding but just in general I think it brings out peoples true colors. Even the brides….

It brought out my mom’s true colors. I swear at every turn she was trying to talk me out of marrying my husband.

Also my “best friend” from high school was awful during my engagement and wedding. RSVPd then didn’t bother showing up or letting me know. Not even a congratulations during the entire process. I think she’s a bit jealous that my life worked out and hers hasn’t really. Oh well, wedding planning really can reveal who the true friends are in your life.

Even if she’s only been dating a month, her boyfriend’s mother passing away is huge, tragic deal. Plus, if someone doesn’t want to be there, it’s better if they’re not there.

    I’d let it go.

Yes it did! People who you think will be there for you aren’t and people who you thought would flake were extremely supportive! I just decided to not expect anything from anyone & lessen the disappointment when people flaked out.

I can relate to you! Since I got engaged a close friend disappeared. I have known her my whole life and we have always been close. She has never asked about my wedding plans or shown interest at all. She had negative comments about anything I show her or try to involve her in. It really makes me sad but my fiance tells me she is just jealous and it is difficult for her to be happy for me. I feel like I have lost a friend and I have decided not to invite her to bridal shower etc because its important for me to surround myself with people who are there to support me.

-When you are feeling down about the situation just think of all the people who have been there for you and the love you share with your fiance… that is what I try to do. It is your big day, don’t let anyone bring you down! It sounds like you have a pretty good group of friends so try not to worry about that one negative, probably envious person.

MrsTickledPink:  yep you just have to focus on the good & don’t get down about people who aren’t supportive… it’s too time consuming and this is a happy time in your life!

It is probably not fair to have a destination wedding that by definition excludes people and  expect them to turn around and be there for you with bells on for all the pre- wedding festivities.
