Well.. someone here said apartments don’t have alarms! I may live in a different kind of state then, because almost every new apartment building around here has an alarm system including my own, with a panic button in my room. I also have the keycard entry lock on my door, like a hotel–I feel really safe here, but they only upgraded after a girl was murdered four years ago, so it’s kind of… yeah. I mean, it was not a usual crime or anything but it’s so weird to think about! 🙁
I also have a roommate, but when she’s gone I freak out alone. Even with all the extra security (panic button by my bed)!

My boy is on a buisness trip right now and I dont really feel scared… im just bored…. But I am also sitting on the couch snuggling with our boxer mix… He is a big baby, but when someone knocks on the door or is in our yard while he is looking out his window he will bark once or twice and we will go watch them run… Friday the mail lady was scooting pretty fast after putting a box on the porch and the looking over to a big black dog growing at her…

When I was in h.s., my house was broken into and the burglars were still there when we pulled in the driveway. They managed to get out, but they stole a lot, and my Dad had an alarm installed. Sometimes, when I was home alone, i would take a big knife, my teddy bear & the phone and lock myself in the bathroom when the alarm was on the instant setting. It took me a while to get over that. I used to be a big horror movie and crime show buff, which didn’t help.
Right now, I’m very comfortable home alone, but we live in a guard-gated community in a very nice neighborhood and we have the ability to lock a gate that prevents anyone from even getting to the front door.
When we move in a few months, I am thinking of getting an alarm or getting a German Shepherd. I was raised with German Shepherds and whenever I had one with me, I always knew I was safe. I am also planning on purchasing a gun. I learned to shoot several years back and I’m a very good shot;-)

@sleepy- “Did people 20 years ago lock themselves in at night and have alarms, etc? No.”
Really? I don’t know about othe people but my parents have locked their doors at night at least as long as they’ve lived in the house I grew up in(24 years) and I’m pretty sure they did in their prior home as well.
