Are you offended by the word fag?
I’m curious because today a man came and ordered his drink. He then asked for the cup we just marked and a marker. At the bottom of the cup her wrote the word “fag”. We were all a little upset by this and he said well, “I’m giving it to my boss, it’s just a joke, etc.” When we asked him to tell her that it was from him, and that we had nothing to do with it he said that he would just tell the woman that a woman named xyz did it. Ugh, whatever. Obviously we didn’t know what he was going to write at the time and we didn’t really know how to solve the problem so we just ignored it.
But are you offended by the word? Or do you use it jokingly with your friends?

I think its an offensive word. I definitely know people who use it as a joke term but I never do. I hate that word and don’t think it should be used like that.

I’m not offended by it, but I would never use it (for what it’s worth I have a gay man of honor instead of a traditional MOH). I think the fact that the majority of the gay men I’m friends with are so laid back about stuff like that kind of rubbed off on me. I do have a tendancy to say “what the gay” instead of “what the heck” which my Man of Honor finds hilarious!!! I don’t know where I picked that up, but he says he finds it amusing because it makes no sense, haha.

I would find it offensive as well and be upset if someone think I wrote it.

I know people who use it ‘jokingly’ but I’ve told them it offends me so they try not to do it around me. I wish they wouldn’t do it at all. I think people who use it tend to sound very ignorant.

Context is important, but I generally think it’s offensive and would never say it.

I find it VERY offensive especially when used to describe an individual.
I know people who use it jokingly as well and I get it. But I always tell them it offends me and not to use it.
I have plenty of gay friends as well and some it bothers and some it doesn’t.

Well it would certainly take me by surprise. And considering he wrote it himself and did tell you it was part of a joke, you would have to trust that. I think slang like that needs to be taken in context and while I think it should be avoided, I don’t have a problem with people using it as long as it wasn’t meant to be offensive. I hope that makes sense.

I hate this word. I know a lot of guys that use this word jokingly to each other, and I hate it. My brother and my Fiance used to throw this word back and forth to each other all the time (jokingly, because they’re really good friends…not because they don’t get along) and I hate it! absolutely hate it! Thankfully, I don’t hear much of it anymore.
