@MrsPanda99 This is going to sound crazy.. and I really didn’t read anyone above me’s comments (sorry ladies!) so it may have been said but…
that tingly feeling you get right before it? before it breaks out you know? I always dab nail polish remover on it. Like a solid day of constant nail polish remover and vaseline at night. Usually stops mine from breaking out.
You’d be surprised but nail polish reliever also soothes the pain of it once it breaks out. It dries it out quicker and someway works as a pain reliever.
It’s probably not the healthiest method but sometimes when you’re desperate you’ll try anything..

I didn’t read all the posts so I might have missed this. Has your husband ever been tested for it?? I did some research a few months ago and found out that something like 40% (I don’t have a reference for this, sorry) of people carry the virus but have never had a cold sore!

I have gotten cold sores ever since I was a kid, and they always seem to come at the worst time.
I agree, lysine paired with Abreva is probably the best OTC solution. I recently started buying generic valtrex from an online pharmacy (I don’t have insurance) and I haven’t had one in over 6 months.

I get them about once or twice a year when the weather changes. This last time it appeared in full force LITERALLY the morning after the wedding. I couldn’t even be upset about it because at least the wedding was over!

I literally have one now. Grrrr. I get them with high stress. It’s the end of the semester, so finals are in full swing. It sucks!!

Everyone in my family gets cold sores b/c they’re too trashy to take precautions like not drinking off the same glass- I hate my older family members for giving me the cold sore virus as a child.
Nobody in my fiancee’s family gets cold sores and they have no idea how painful and embarassing cold sores are and think it’s no big deal, like a pimple or something. I can’t deal with the pain of a coldsore and their stupid faces staring at me when I have a break out, so I stay home.

I’ve only gotten one once, and that was probably about 10 years ago.
