1ct oval Moissanite. I couldn’t justify the price of a natural diamond for the knowledge of how unethically most diamonds are mined, and I decided if I was going to have something lab grown I would rather save the money and get a Moissanite. My ring is not a rock by any means, but it is exactly what I wanted. We just got engaged on Friday and I am obsessed with it!

    jayquellen :  This.

I have a family diamond. Probably would have gone with a sapphire otherwise.

I have both! My moissanite is what I wear when I want just a simple solitaire with a big stone. My diamond is smaller but in a much more intricate setting.

Engaged with a diamond because I didn’t know there were other options. Plan on upgrading to a moissanite set soon, but will eventually swap them out with lab diamonds. Honestly, if I had the money now, my upgrade set would be lab diamonds and I’d skip moissanite altogether.

I guess the value of a diamond has been drilled into women’s brains for so many years, it’s hard to shake it. It’s stupid, I’m aware, but I’m just being honest. Kinda like more expensive = better even though that’s not always the case.

I have a blue sapphire. Diamonds were never really my thing, I prefer a pop of color.

Diamond! I don’t think I would have wanted a non diamond stone for my engagement ring, just not for me.

I think moissonite is more common on these boards than in real life. I’ve only ever met one person who actually mentioned it IRL once.

whiteheadtobe :  I love moissanite and think they make great engagement rings, but I never know when people say “unethical” when it comes to diamonds, what they mean.

Most major retailors make sure their diamonds are conflict free and most have been since the Kimberley Process in 2001. Environmentally, gold mining has a larger impact than diamond mining.

    Is there something I’m missing?

I have a diamond. I originally had a white sapphire but it just wasn’t sparkly enough for me for a wedding ring. I get that the whole marketing thing has pushed diamonds on us but it’s hard to ignore the 10 durability and high refractive index. That being said, I do think that both moissanite and sapphires are excellent choices. I am in love with moissanite now and have a right hand ring in the works!

Soon2BMrsFredericks :  I have a diamond ring but I would have been perfectly okay with moissanite. My fiance just really wanted to get me a diamond ring I guess.

I have various diamonds that I rotate, but my favorite lately is the fancy yellow. I love gem stones as well, and wear them as RHRs. My favorites are padparadscha sapphires and paraibas. I’m very interested in geology, so lab made stones don’t do anything for me at all.
