Right now we have 2, and even room for the third. Darling Husband and I do not have any kids ( yet), but we just bought a 3 BR/2.5 BA house with a bonus room that could double as another bedroom since it does have a door and a closet. My family comes to visit at least once a month and stays for 2-3 days at a time, so it has been nice to be able to have those rooms used on a regular basis until we start our own family.

@kay01: We also have a 1 bedroom condo. So, no guestroom.
Our place is quite small and while we don’t necessarily need one, we’ve realized we’d like a second bedroom AND a second bathroom. Our new place will have both, and we’ll use the second bedroom as a guest room/ home office.

@KC-2722: Oh don’t get me started on a second bathroom! *DH* takes too much time in there in the mornings, which can make us late to work.
@housebee: What’s a gecko room?

We’ve got four bedrooms. One’s obviously ours, one is an office and one’s the guest room. The other one, well.. it’s nothing. Not kidding, all that’s in there now is some empty boxes, a couple cases of water, and a big package of papertowels that I can’t stash in the kitchen. It’s so sad. I should furnish it one day!

@kay01: We raise/breed geckos as a hobby, so we keep them all in the same room.

We have an office right now in our apartment that also functions as a bedroom when we have guests. We should also have a place for guests to stay when we buy a house.

We live in a 3 bedroom apt: Master, office, craft room/guest room. Both of our parents live about 2 hours away and many friends live even further so it’s nice to have a room that they can sleep in. We are also able to keep it mostly pet free so guests with allergies are ok. It was only $25 or so more a moth from a 2 bedroom, and our floorplan is much better.

@kay01: We have a spare bedroom and have had one as long as we have lived together. Initially we rented a 2-br because we moved in quickly together and wanted to make sure we had enough space in case things went south (spoiler alert: they didn’t!). Then when we bought our house, we bought a 3-br because my fiance worked from home and needed a home office that doubles as a man-cave (and houses some of his clothes, because I use the entire closet in our room… tee hee), so the 3rd bedroom is our spare bedroom. We kind of needed a spare room though because my fiance’s from across the country and a few times a year we have friends and family visiting from out of town and it’s better to have a room for them to stay in!

I voted yes it was important that we do have one, we have a 4 bedroom home but were also in the process of renovating our basement for another bedroom and another family room. This is our Guest room.

Yes, we have a 5 bedroom house for the two of us haha. 🙂 (Plus our dog, cat and gecko).
Upstairs has 3: One is our master bedroom. Second is our guest bedroom. Third is my office. Downstairs has 2: Fourth is hubby’s office. Fifth is a small random room that was added on later (it is considered a bedroom but I think its pretty small) that’s our gym.
When we have a baby eventually then the guest bedroom will be changed into the nursery, not a big deal. But having the extra room is definitely helpful for out of town guests and friends to crash when they had too much to drink 😉
We weren’t planning on looking for such a big house but we randomly came across this one we liked that was in our budget so we went for it! And it has room for expansion when we have kids. But our real estate market is really high and outrageous but we are like 40 minutes away from Vancouver.

@Nona99: Does it cuddle?
We don’t, but we live in a two bedroom apartment. The second bedroom is our cat/junk/computer room.

We have a 2bdrm apt right now. When we decided to move from our old apartment complex I decided we needed a spare bedroom. My mom lhas a tendancy to come visit and then stay longer than planned and although she had no problem sleeping in the living room, i always felt smothered. LOL Now she has a bedroom. And of course anyone else visiting has somewhere to stay too!

I can’t wait to have a guest bedroom! When Darling Husband and I finally get to live together this is a priority for us, as we will not be living in either of our home towns.
Plus, how do you fit both people’s clothes into one closet? Do we just have more clothes than most people?

Where’s the “No, because we don’t have an extra room” option? We live in a 2-bedroom house right now and it just fits me, Fiance, and my daughter. We plan on moving next summer, though, and I told Fiance that 3 bedrooms is a must because I want a guest room.
@Atalanta: +1 this made me giggle 🙂 when my sister visits she takes over our living room for days at a time.

@kay01: we do but we are lucky. And we got that extra room for US to have. We wanted that extra space. I often watch ‘House hunters international’ and scratch my head. People are willing to spend soooooo much more for that extra guest bedroom ‘ for when people visit’ but how often will that happen? Are your friends and family so stuck up that they would refuse to sleep on a pull out couch bed for a couple of days? That your willing to spend THOUSANDS more for that extra bedroom? You should always buy a house based on YOUR budget and preferences, not your future guests desires 🙂 and don’t feel pressured otherwise!
