I would soooooo love to have one. I’m completely unable to relax about people having access to my private things though. What do you do with stuff like your jewelry and papers?  I have a 3600 sq ft home and I do all the cleaning alone as well as the outdoor work and the cooking and the shopping. I need a break.

Yes, and it saves time! Some places can be expensive like businesses and franchises. Independent cleaning ones are reasonable priced and they carry their own insurance also. They charge by square footage, rooms, and bathrooms, whether you have pets.  I request safe pet products because the regular ones are toxic. They charge extra for second floor. They have basic cleanings, and deep cleanings. If you sign up for one regularly, they also give you discount. I calculated my salary and it works great. We did cancel our lawn service which paid for our lawnmower. We also get excercise since push our mower.

leilarobs2:  We locked up our items when we first meet them or take them to a safety deposit box. After we are comfortable then we unlock them.

Yes, twice a week–Tuesdays and Fridays. She cleans and does laundry.

asianyoushi:  Our house is only 1700 sqft and we have a housekeeper. I refuse to use a service because they charge as much or more than private people and they pay their employees minimum wage, and honestly, the quality you often get reflects this after the first visit or two.

It’s hard to find a good person, especially when we move to a new area and I don’t have anyone I can ask for recommendations for, but it makes all the difference in the world.

We live in a 2000 sq ft townhouse (yes, I realize that’s a big townhome) and we have one twice monthly during the school year (I’m a teacher).  Even though I have school meetings and things over the summer, I cannot justify the cost since I’m home most of the time.

Edit: she doesn’t do laundry and she always says our home is so easy because we don’t have any pets.  She does an awesome job and I love having the entire place clean at once.

Oh my god, I’d love to have her come ever week!!! I can’t justify the cost (yet) though. We’re moving to a bigger house later this year, so depending on how much our mortgage is, I’ll readjust the frequency of her visits… Love my clean house withotu having to do it myself!

I have a cleaning lady that comes once a week – i still do laundry and dishes.  We hired her after I went back to work from maternity leave with my first child.  It is so nice to not have to worry about adding more crap to the to do list.

I would love to have one but it would be torture for me, cleaning lady, and my bank account. We live in 750 square feet apartment and we are messy but I can’t justify spending about $60 for someone to clean my house. Plus I don’t trust people so I would be breathing on her neck constantly and she would hate me. I worked as a maid before and those kind of clients are the worst and you want revenge eventually.

Maybe when we move to a house, but for now… mop and duster – here I come.
