I found a bed that happens to go with all of our existing bedroom furniture. It only requires a mattress, no box spring. And it’s 20% off – last one in the store!
Does anyone have these types of beds? Pros, Cons?
It’s a decent quality furniture, solid wood. It has many slats on the bottom. I figure we could be saving money by not having to get a box spring, headboard and frame as it’s all in this one piece of furniture.
Ilike how this matches our stuff already and now I just need a new mattress and we’re set. Fewer things to buy!

I have a platform bed, so no box spring, but FH and I both prefer a bed that sits lower to the ground. I definitely saved some money, and I love it!

I’ve always had this kind. I much prefer them actually. Storage space under the bed, much firmer, mattresses last longer. Plus moving a box spring is such a hassle.

@sienna76: we have one and I don’t lIke it. it creaks and makes noise all night long. Our mattress sags and is low to the ground. I wish we would have gone with a traditional bed with a box spring

We used to have one and it was great. Nice and low to the ground for shorter people and families with little kids.

I have had 3 slat beds. 2 were great but DO NOT buy an Ikea bed with slats. They break wicked bad…and the slats fall out bleh. Our bed right now has slats and It’s from Crate and Barrel I believe, and it’s been great.

This one actually seems a normal bed height to me!
If we’re moving around on the model bed and it’s not creaking, could we assume a new mattress won’t creak? The store mattress is in plastic right now.

@icetea: I’ve had my Ikea bed since 2004 and only had to replace the slats because my boyfriend MAY have been pushed onto the bed by me…and one broke. But it’s been fine for me.

Boyfriend or Best Friend had one from Ikea that now we use as our bed because I wanted for him to be able to still use some of his stuff when we moved in together. I don’t notice a difference from my non-slat bed. I didn’t realize that you aren’t supposed to use a box spring with it so when I set it up, I put the box spring in. It sits pretty high because of this but he likes it that way and I tolerate it haha.

@peachacid: Well you must have gotten the good ones! I’m sure we bought the cheapest they had. We had 6, all for kids and seriousy those kids were like laying inside the broken slats with broken wood particles about to jab into their eyes. It was a nightmare! Plus the slats fell out every day and every day we’d have to lift up mattresses and put the slats back in.

@sienna76: We do!!! We have a slat bed and just a good quality queen size mattress (no box spring). We LOVE it. Super comfy and solid….good for sleeping and other activities.

Our king size bed has slats and I like it. It doesn’t feel any different than a regular bed, it’s a little bit lower (not much, but slightly better for the dogs at least), and it saved us money not having to buy the box spring. I’d do it again.

I loved ours that we got from Overstock, but the center brace broke after 2 days. They sent us a replacement which broke again in about 5 months. I was so disappointed. We now just have the headboard from it and bought a metal frame & boxspring.
