Do you have a work Christmas party?

My husband works at a country club. The area clubs take turns hosting the party. It’s a nice sit down dinner and then dancing after. The club takes reservations and gives two drink tickets per person. If you don’t show up after you said you would then you get the bill for your dinner. It’s cash bar after the two drink tickets. Only downfall is it’s on a Monday night so everyone can attend because that’s their day off. 

I work at a pediatric clinic and we do a potluck and gift exchange at someone’s house. BYOB if desired. The first year my husband wanted to bring a bottle of whisky and I said “no I don’t think it’s that kind of party”. Then we walk into my clinic lead doing shots. Whoops! Haha 


Both parties are a fun time.

We have a very fancy company wide one at a venue that is typically used for weddings and we have a department one.

They go all out at the fancy one. Appetizers, open bar, sit down meal, dessert buffet, gorgeous decor and dancing afterward. We do not contribute to that. Yes, we are going this weekend. I actually managed to score a free hotel room nearby as well due to them overbooking.

Our department party is a pot luck over lunch where everyone brings a dish and the company provides the main dish, usually pulled pork or wings.

My husband does not have one at all. Previously he worked at a company that had their Christmas party at a Discovery World type museum with food stations. Best Christmas party I’ve been too!

My company is small. We’re going to a fancy restaurant with us and our SOs. We’re putting it on the company card.

My workplace has a small gathering at a restaurant, and each employee pays their own way.

DH’s workplace, on the other hand, is sending us to FL for their holiday party this year. One year they sent us to the Netherlands, and another year they sent us to Mexico. So his company evens out mine!

echomomm :  omg they send you guys on trips?! That sounds amazing! How long do you usually go for? Every five years my company flies everyone in to headquarters but I work at HQ already (and even if I didn’t, it’s not really a destination city lol).

socalgirl1689 :  a brunch sounds so nice! 12/22 does seem really late. Even if people aren’t traveling, they are usually running around finishing up last minute tasks. I’m glad we always have our big one the second week of December! Still Christmas-y but still a few weekends to shop and whatnot.

We are having one on a Friday night at a bowling alley in really nice part of town. I am not bringing anyone (going through divorce) and I have no idea how the drinks will be handled. Last year it was at a different but similar place and I think they did drink tickets but I don’t know about this year. I think there will be items given out….like Walgreen’s gift cards, and Yeti swag,….don’t know how that is done if its prizes for bowling scores (id never win anything) or if its like they pick a random name….I hope its the random name, then I actually have a chance!

Aussie here!

Yep ours is tomorrow. Starts at 4pm so we miss an hour of work…. we’re going bowling with drinks and dinner. The company is paying and partners are not invited.

Until the after party which is funded by us 😉

We used to have a really fancy one each year but my company has had some difficulties recently, so we didn’t have one last year at all. This year we have a small one in the office, which is appropriate (for the finances) and nice. Just some beers and hotdogs kind of thing. No plus ones but luckily for me, my SO and I work together. 🙂 It’s on the 18th!

Yes, we both do. Unfortunately, it’s on the same day so we are going to his. It’s at a nightclub with a full open bar.  Mine was a convention Center with plated dinner and 2 drinks. Employer pays entirely.

Yes, we have a Christmas party every year. This year it’s on December 12 (a Tuesday evening), but only because we left it til last minute to plan lol – normally it’s on a Friday or a Saturday evening. Darling Husband will be coming with me – I work in a small office, so we’re allowed to bring SOs every year which is nice. This year we’re having it at a restaurant – three course dinner with drinks (beer, wine, soft drink). My boss picks up the tab but I think if people drank more – as it stands, everyone has one maybe two drinks with dinner and that’s it – we would probably be asked to cover alcohol. There will literally be 6 of us at the party this year, including SOs, so it’s not a whole lot of people to pay for lol.

Yes, my company has a large corporate formal Christmas dinner and party. I have zero intention of going, it’s a three hour drive and I don’t enjoy them. My husband’s company is much smaller they take us out for supper at a local restaurant and we never miss it.

socalgirl1689 :  yes we have a party. It’s hosted by the company at a fancy event location (did each year – think art museum) and all employees are encouraged to bring a guest. It’s being held this Saturday (the 9th of dec). 

My company does a really great job and is super generous with this event. I’m pretty lucky to work for a great company. 

My husbands company doesn’t do a party, which is fine with us. One work Xmas party per year is enough for us.

Yep this year it’s at SF City Hall in the rotunda. We don’t pay for anything, but usually the afterparties are out of pocket 😛

DH’s company doesn’t do holiday parties, but they have a fancy party whenever they hit a milestone (usually those are out of town but with all expenses paid). I like it that way — it spreads out parties over the course of the year!
