Before you decide, see what is common in homes in your area (for resale purposes some day you want to make sure you are in line with your neighborhood).  In my neighborhood, engineered or real hardwood is common.  Almost no one uses laminate.  Good luck!

Not the best picture as it’s meant to be of my cat, but it’s the only thing I have at work that shows them. We have honey colored bamboo floors. I LOVE them. I will admit that the dogs nails to indent them, however they have not scratched the finish. We chose them because they are pretty, affordable, can be refinished just like hardwood, and our a renewable resource. Hope this helps a little bit.

Here’s a googled stock photo I found.

Here is our hardwood. The stain is quite dark…sunlight was pouring in the day I took this photo so it’s reading quite a bit lighter than it does in low light.

Please ignore our horrible coffee table, which we desperately need to replace!

This is one of the best ones I can find on this computer, ignore the birthday girl 🙂

Ours are super dark laminate – but are like engineered wood w/ a laminate top. We love the way they look, very dramatic. BUT, they have a shiny/glossy finish which makes them an absolutle pain to keep clean 🙁 We really wish we would of went with a natural or matte finish.

We have a medium-dark laminate. It wears amazingly, we have a 140 pound dog sliding around, and no scratched to be found after almost 2 years. We have a satin finish and it cleans really easily using a steam mop.

@hergreenapples: i have that rug in my office at home=)

we have bamboo in every room other than our kitchen and our bathroom (both tile). the are very light in color, & look ok, but i HATE them=( everything scratches them, even heels on shoes have left marks! and they are shallow little marks, these are DEEP nasty looking marks that can’t be taken out. maybe there are better bamboo floors than ours, they were here, we didn’t pick them out, but ours are awful. here’s a pick of them (sry for bad pic, just took with my phone & floors need to be washed!)
