I was having a conversation with co workers this morning about not having cable tv and they were both shocked we don’t have it.I haven’t had cable tv since I lived at home with my parents, but when I did have it I enjoyed watching.
My husband doesn’t want to watch too much tv, so we only have Netflix ,but there doesn’t seem to be that great of content on Canadian Netflix.
So are my coworkers right that I should have cable? I mentioned that I kind of wished to have it since I miss out on watching the news and things like the Canadian debates last night (which sparked this conversation) and guilty pleasure shows.
Would you miss not having cable?

jazzybee83 : We cut the cord a year ago when we bought our house. Our old cable bill was RIDICULOUS and we were looking for ways to save some money. We have tons of streaming services though (Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, HBO) and yet we’re still saving so much money by not having cable! And honestly? We don’t miss real tv at all! It’s been great!
ETA: We were the first of our friends/family to do this and since we did several people we know have also cut the cord. I think it’s becoming more popular.

jazzybee83 : We don’t have cable, but we do have YouTube TV which has a decent amount of local channels that we can watch in real time, so we can watch the news and new shows that come on certain networks and also record ones which I like. It’s like $40 a month, but we split it with my Brother-In-Law since you have have several devices registered to one account. I don’t know if they have that in Canada, but might be worth looking into?
We also have netflix and when game of thrones is one my husband will pay for the HBO app then cancel once it’s over.
We also have Hulu which we don’t watch much, and we use Amazon Prime Video quite a bit which comes with a lot of free shows, and also ones for purchase.

We didnt have cable TV for years, it wasnt until we moved into our current home that we got it but my husband also works for a large company who sells this so we have an employee discount. Honestly cable is so expensive, it is a luxury to have

Don’t have it. Haven’t had it since 2015. I only miss seeing the presidential debates. I’m puzzled that your coworkers are trying to tell you should have it…
I’m working on breaking my habit of being on my phone too much. There is so much real living to be done away from screens.

We cut cable for a while, but trying to stream live sports was a nightmare and we ended up signing back up.

Thanks everyone! Glad I’m not the only one!
i also thought it was strange to say I should be getting it (they even used the term happy wife ,happy life)
My husband is a hockey fan so with the new season starting up he will stream games , but they are always choppy and low quality .
I agree it is a luxury to have.

We’ve never had cable. We watch nextflx or Iplayer for catch up. Most of the channels on cable are complete garbage so I don’t feel like we miss out.
We’ve also never had a house phone which my coworkers think is weird but it seems totally pointless in 2019.

Yeah canadian netflix isn’t enough to fully sustain me either lol. You could look at something like IP TV, which is a streaming service. I think its like $20 a month (plus cost of the box) for every channel.

jazzybee83 : we have cable but rarely actually watch it – most of the things we watch are on hulu or netflix. We only still have cable because sports, but it’s also bundled together with phone and internet and it’s cheaper to have all three. It’s only $115/month for everything since we have the ultrafast internet it would be about the same for internet alone.

I don’t have cable and don’t miss it at all. I have Netflix, Hulu, and HBO. There’s plenty to watch between the three. When we visit my parents or in-laws, who both have cable, I never think “oh I miss having this” It’s just insane amounts of commercials and I can’t think of one show I feel I’m missing out on because I don’t have cable.

We have cable in the living room, but honestly, no one really watches it all that much. My older daughter might turn on cable to watch Bachelor/Bachelorette when that’s on, but otherwise, most of us either watch Netflix/Hulu or don’t really watch TV at all. My wife and I have an Amazon Fire Stick in our room, and watch shows/movies on there almost exclusively. We’re seriously considering cutting cable out entirely. 🤷♀️

Yes, we have cable. Not a crazy super huge package though but the most important stuff for us. We do use it quite a bit and it’s worth it. Most people I know in real life also have them but I notice here not a lot of bees have them.
