I put mine on the back.  We ordered a pretty stamp off of Etsy for it.  I’ve always gotten invitations with the return address on the back.

@Rouquine:  I dont think it is required from an etiquette perspective but we did have them. We had so many overseas guests and I wanted to make sure that if the invitations didn’t reach them, then they could be returned to sender. I am very glad we did this as a few were returned to sender and we knew to follow up with those guests via email.

Normally correct etiquette on a formal invitation would be to have the RSVP on the bottom left of the invitation, as per debretts-

@Rouquine:  Including your return address on the envelopw lets guests ensure that they have your most current address.  Since it’s most proper to mail gifts to the bride before the wedding, many people will check the wedding invitation envelope for your address!

If, for some strange reason, an invitation is undeliveralbe, you’re MUCH more likely to find out if you have a return address on it!  – After all, it’s certainly not going to be returned if there’s no indication of the sender.  (Also, in the US, the post office says that you are supposed to have a return address on mail)

I used return address labels on my invites, simply because I use them on all mail I send. If I had an address wrong I figured this would be the only way I would know, as I’d get the invite back.

The USPS prefers that you put them on the front, but I think people put it on the back for aesthetic purposes.

I put it on the back because I thought it looked nicer.

But as @maladroite:  said I believe the post offices prefer it on the front. I remember one bee saying that a lot of hers got returned to her because in Canada they use some sorting machine and the machine got confused with the two sides.

I haven’t had any problems…YET.

I’ve never heard of this, I’ve always followed USPS guidelines and put them in the front corner.  I’ve never recieved an invite with the return address on the back.
