No, too unsanitary for me. I kiss my FH but I know where he’s been lol.

I used to kiss my dad on the lips until I got a lot older, now it’s just on the cheek. I don’t understand what’s weird about kids (or adults) pecking family members on the lips? There’s nothing remotely sexual about it and it’s really sad that people have to shame others for something so innocent and loving.

I find it unusual to kiss family members on the lips because growing up I was taught that kissing on the lips was for romantic relationships. My dad was very concerned with setting boundaries so that I could easily recognize inappropriate attention and behaviour from adults. If I have children I will probably raise them the same way.

That being said, I don’t judge people who show this type of affection. As other posters have said, we are all raised differently and that’s OK.

danibee5683 :  I don’t think that’s appropriate, but then again I’m not very physically affectionate with my family so that’s likely why I perceive it as weird and boundary-pushing.

I would not approve of my child kissing anyone on the lips (not even me or his/her father).

I absolutely did when I was a kid. Not really anymore but I can’t say that I haven’t rushed a kiss with my mom or dad and kissed them close to their mouth. It’s so innocent and my family isn’t even particularly that affectionate. IMO anyone who turns that into a “thing” (inappropriate) is looking for things to complain about and is inflicting their own weird hang ups on someone else’s otherwise loving and innocent relationships.

Noooope. When my stepfather came into our family in my teens, he seemed to think it was normal. I’ve seen he and his adult daughter greet each other with quick pecks on the lips. I have never intentionally kissed an adult on the lips other than romantically. Even though I realize all lip touching is not inherently sexual, it does feel inherently…familiar? I don’t kiss babies on the lips either, but I don’t have my own.

danibee5683 :  I have one aunt that kisses on the lips throughout my whole childhood butnow that I’m an adult I find it a little weird LOL. I don’t hold it against her though as she has always done this and it doesn’t mean anything. Just really affectionate I guess.

Nope. Not for me. Won’t be doing that with my future kids either.

My family were huggers and pecks on the cheeks type of people.

It is really sad that so many people are implying this is creepy and universally “inappropriate”.

this is a loaded topic. i respect anyones right to do whatever they want and to feel a certain way but i will say this, i am italian. aunts, unlces, grandparents, we ALL kiss on the mouth. all of us. it is not weird, gross nor inappropriate in our eyes. its always been this way.

zzar45 :  i agree. if you are uncomfortable with it, fine. but to call it all kinds of names because you dont like it is just judgemental and rude.

Its insane to me that it’s even aimed at people who kiss their own kids! Don’t do it if you don’t want to but to imply it’s weird or creepy is really F’d up. alfalfasprout10518 :

No, my family didn’t really display any type of affections.

La bise is really awkward for me.

I’ve never done this with my family, and I did think it was really weird, but I guess if it’s not what you’re used to it’s weird for you. If you grew up like that it’s just something normal.
