Of course I do fool, I paid for it! Or at least, I helped pay for it...

Yes I do - he bought it himself, but I saw the cost on the credit card statements/ATM receipts.

Yah - he never told me how much it cost, but I had it appraised.

Sorta. I have a general sense for how much jewelry costs, and was able to eyeball it.

No. I could've easily found out, but I don't really care about things like this.

No, he did it all on his own and never told me (or I didn't ask)

What, six options aren't good enough for ya? Fine, here is a 'none of the above' option for you!

Oops, forgot to add an option for "Yes, he told me how much it cost"

My husband got lucky in the fact that my engagement ring was inherited. It was my great grandmother’s. He did buy me a gorgeous eternity band for our 1st anniversary!

I know how much it cost, but I didnt’ want to. My Future Father-In-Law had it appraised (which was smart, but very unromantic) so we could get it insured, and I was required to sign the appraisal in order for the insurance to be legal. I really wish I didn’t know, because it makes me even more paranoid about losing it. But then again…at least if I do lose it, we have insurance!

I should have picked #6…I knew how much it was from the beginning since we picked it out together. I actually wrote the check for it when I went to pick it up. He was out of town and I didn’t want to wait. It was a check from his checking acct. though, so I didn’t actually pay for it.

I wasn’t the slightest bit involed in the selection or purchasing of the ring, and he paid for it all on his own.  I asked him on the night we got engaged how much he paid and he told him.  Because he got it through my grandfather and I got it appraised through him, I knew how much it was worth (which was almost double what he paid!)

Oh, forgot to add before (and thanks to Suzanno for pointing out that you asked!) that I also calculated out the "value" of insurance and it would take a little over 58 years for me to pay more in insurance than he did for the ring.  This assumes no inflation, change in metal costs, etc.  Definitely worth it, IMO!

ETA: be careful with appraisals, since people often insure their rings for far too much. Make sure to choose an independent appraiser (NOT the jeweler you bought the ring from) and ask him or her not to inflate the value.  If your policy is one where they cut you a check and you buy the replacement yourself, it makes sense to insure it for the higher end of the appraisal…but if your insurance company chooses the replacement, keep in mind that they can choose any stone and setting that substantially matches the specs of your current ring, so it’s not worth paying a ton extra in premiums on it.

I don’t know how much my ring cost because Fiance picked it out himself, but I am pretty sure it is worth more than my car (not that my car is new or fancy).    When I went to have my ring resized, the jeweler actually put the price on the resize slip but I looked away so I wouldn’t find out.

I’m hoping I never find out, because it will mean something happened to my ring 🙁

We went shopping together so he could have an idea for what I liked and he was open about the approximate amount he wanted to spend. I asked him the total afterward and he told me. We both make very little, so he was proud of how much he was able to save up in just a couple of months.

The price is right there on my certificate of appraisal, which I had to bring in for sizings and for inspections.  At first I tried to avoid looking at it, but curiosity got the best of me during my second sizing.

I know because I saw that the payment statement was layout out at his apartment and I told him to be careful b/c I almost caught a glimpse of the amount, to which he promptly told me the amount. So much for mystery! Haha!

We both wanted to be sure that my ring was insured, so he got the appraisal when he bought it. He assured me that he didn’t pay what the appraisal said, and I’m glad! He would have spent way too much! But I’m very glad he got it appraised for me. It made insuring it so much easier!

Yes, he told me, plus I took the papers in to his insurance company right away, and the value was listed there. 😉

i know his general budget for the ring but insisted he not pay the full amount. he’ll be making the decisions of the ring [including purchasing] without me so i know he won’t ever tell me how much he paid until we go get it insured.

i don’t care to know how much he paid. i just want to make sure he doesn’t go broke!

Yes, I know how much he paid because I was there!  We bought the ring semi-spontaneously…

does it count that I worked at the jewelery store and one of my Bridesmaid or Best Man is the one who showed him ONLY the rings that I wanted. Plus he is not all that good with paperwork so I have all of our important documents.

I found out the price because it is on the certificate that I have to bring into the store to have them check the setting and clean it every 6 months.
