A coworker of mine cancelled her Destination Wedding (which I found out after seeing her at work and congratulating her on the marriage….AWKWARD). It was all booked and planned and people had paid for flights. She said she and her fiancé had just had so many disagreements they both evaluated whether or not marriage was right for them, or if they were going through with it because it was expected of them, and ended up separating.

I think she was incredibly brave for doing so and, as someone who got divorced less than two years after my wedding, I wish I’d had the guts to do the same.

I did, in 2012, a month out. I wasn’t ready, i freaked out, cancelled the wedding and left my fiancé. He came after me and after 3 months and a lot of talking we got back together and are eloping in 9 days!

My sister cancelled her wedding two months before it was supposed to happen after her fiancé got laid off.  Everything was already paid for and she was making enough money on her own.  However, she couldn’t marry someone for whom she had “no respect” for.

Better to have some of these stories than the one I have – at a wedding I photographed, I called the couple when they got back from honeymoon to ask when they wanted their album planning meeting. The wife answered and said “we don’t need it, we’re getting divorced”.

They had 3 children, and I remember when he was giving his speech he said “…. and thank you to our flower girls – our children – without whom let’s face it we wouldn’t even be getting married”. The guests laughed at the time, but I think that probably summed it up. The bride was super excited, the groom seemed like he hated every minute. Hindsight.

My fiance was engaged to his first girlfriend. They had an on/off thing going on because she constantly accused him of cheating on her, which never happened, and she was just generally emotionally unstable. They were together for seven years before they finally called everything quits. I’m not sure how much time has passed since then but she was already out of his life long before I came along. He still has the ring.

A couple from my hometown canceled theirs. The groom was a major mama’s boy and had been his whole life. At her joint bridal shower/bachelorette, the bride found out that her Future Mother-In-Law not only purchased, but selected the ring and actually orchestrated the proposal for her son. So all the sweet things he did for her the day he proposed, he didn’t even plan or think of himself …

Then, the bride got wasted at the bachelorette part, and WITH HER Future Mother-In-Law and all female future in-laws still present (sisters, cousins, you name it), she called her ex-boyfriend and had him pick her up. She left her own party to cheat on her groom lmao! I guess she stayed at his house for a few days and there was a huge standoff in the yard when the groom decided enough was enough and came to “retrieve” her and bring her home …

They canceled at first, but now they’ve apparently worked things out and rescheduled for December.

One of my girlfriends called off her wedding a month beforehand. They were a train wreck couple, friends and family had all been trying to steer them away from getting married for years. He had a heroin addiction (we didn’t find out about that until later), a porn addiction, and was just a gross person all around. He asked me to have a threesome with them (uh no) and always made comments about my body. Yuck. She knew he wasn’t right for her but I honestly think she wanted the wedding. It was a destination wedding, invitations sent out and RSVPs counted, everything was paid for, we had all booked our accommodations. I still have my $300 bridesmaid dress sitting in the closet. Her parents lost like 40K!

We also had friends who got married and then decided to get a divorce on their honeymoon. We still don’t know what happened, I suspect cheating but they were together for nearly 10 years. The worst part was one of them still cashed our $200 check and never sent a thank you note. We are no longer friends because of that.

Yes and they got married four years later. I think they made the right call at the time and they are very solid as a couple. We all laughed as the processional was to ‘at last’.

My childhood friend called hers off without telling me…major awkwardness when I called to ask her how planning was going. She dated the loser for 7 years, since she was 15. She is a go getter and he is a dead end bum. I still feel for her.

We’ve had an amicable falling out because I was invited to hers, she never told me about the cancellation and then I got engaged. Shes hurting and has cut all communication with me.

I have a friend who was going to be in a wedding this spring but it was called off not too long ago.  My friend said it was a relationship where the guy just had anger issues and was “not a nice person” when they fought.  They called it off after most everything was paid so frankly I do not know how much they will get back…it was a crazy expensive wedding at one of the most expensive venues in town.  I can only imagine how difficult it would be to call off a wedding!

My ex-fiancé broke up with me via email on my 30th birthday and I was sick that day. We lived together at the time and had been dating over 5 years. Needless to say, he was an ass. It was not a pleasant experience but we were almost a year away from the wedding so thankfully not much $ was lost except what I spent on the dress (deposit only). I’m so thankful I never married him. He was a horrible person who treated me very badly but I was blind to it.

I cancelled my wedding 5 days before the wedding to a really sweet Godly christian guy and I didn’t tell him a reason why. I just didn’t feel like he wanted me. We never had sex and were waiting for the wedding night. After everything whent down and air got cleared I heard from his friends and mentors (later from him himself) that he was so excited he could hardly contain himself and put up boundaries to protect purity. Also work was super stressful for him during our wedding planning phase. I am so crushed since we were best friends and fit so well in life together. I started a blog to tell my story. Yeah my best friend had more postponed rather than cancelled her wedding. She had so much interference from her future in laws on how the wedding should be, what hotel to use etc that they just cancelled the whole thing and eloped.

A former work colleague had her wedding cancelled by her fiancé when he panicked and got cold feet 2 weeks beforehand. She went on her honeymoon with her bridesmaids. They eventually reconciled with some couples counselling and got married last summer in a very small ceremony with family only.
