Ok.. going to try posting this again since the last time it disappeared. I love Sarah McLachlan. This is my FAVORITE song by her. When I hear it I imagine something completely different that it’s actual meaning.. so I’d love to play it at our reception
BUT… is it common knowledge what it’s about? Or more obvious than I imagine? Don’t post what it’s about if you know because I’d like honest reactions. Don’t cheat and read the desciption;) I don’t want to be that creepy girl who “married our kid/nephew/cousin/friend” at the reception so please.. honestly.. is it clear the true meaning of Possession?
Crap, part of the answer is in the link. Well, sorry! I’d say that most people wouldn’t automatically think of stalkers and weirdos, it’s a very pretty song. If you want me to edit/delete my post, tell me and I will right away!
I think that the song is beautiful, and is my favorite song by her. I do think that if you were to really listen to the lyrics that you may hear something creepy in the song but if you are playing it at some point during dinner or something no one would really pick up on things, I don’t think.
No don’t delete your post;) yes it’s about her stalker. She took words from his letters to her and wrote the song. He sued her and wanted in on the $$$ but killed himself before it went to court. So they are the words of a stalker…. some romantic lines become completely creepy.. ie… taking someone’s breath away literally becomes taking someone’s breath AWAY.
I might try to slip it in.. but again don’t want to be that bride people post about on other wedding boards of “omg guess what my friend/cousin/cousin’s wife played at her wedding that freak!” lol!!!
If you’re just going to be playing it at some point and it’s not set up to be a special dance or anything, absolutely go for it! I wouldn’t think anything of it if I heard it at a wedding. On a similar note, Fiance and I want to play Foo Fighters “Walking After You” and possibly have our first dance to it! :S
