I live in a Condo.
I know the woman next door and upstairs – at least by face and the occasional wave. I recognize the care aide for the elderly couple that live downstairs next door. I have no clue on the two two-story residences next to me on the other side because the #(&(*&^*^ owner decided to turn them into rental properties (When I bought my condo, there were no rental units allowed and it’s taken a pretty significant hit in value as a result.).

We are friendly with the neighbors on both sides of us. If they are outside, we’ll wave or say hi. We rarely talk to the neighbor directly across the street but his neighbor (kiddie corner to us) is very friendly- we call her the nosey neighbor, she always knows what’s happening! lol
I know the names of the other people on the street, only because I like to look up their deed info. 😂

I lived in big city CA and big city FL and didn’t really know my neighbors. Now I live in “big city” MN and do know a few of my neighbors. Not like how I grew up where we knew a LOT of neighbors, I liked that better. It did help when last year a couple neighbors set up the the Nat’l Night Out party. We even met a few from the next block, so that was cool!

We live in a small town now and know all our immediate neighbors in the houses across the street and on either side of us. We’re lucky, they’re all very nice people! With adorable dogs. 🙂 One neighbor across the street is a stay-at-home Mom, the other across the street is an elderly widow who lives alone and we all look out for her. On one side we have a young medical student whose very wealthy mother from CA bought him the house so he can attend school and she has somewhere to stay when she travels to our area. Our other side is a married couple the same age we are. Since our last neighborhood was very rural and the house were spread apart so far we didn’t get to know people as much; we like our new situation a lot better.

craigslistgirl : I am not really friendly with any of my neighbors. Sure, I’ll smile and wave if I see them while we are passing, but besides that, no. I know the name of the woman who lives next door to us, but I don’t even know anyone else’s names. It’s not excuse, but where I live it’s just too damn hot to be outside, so there isn’t much opportunity to get to know each other.

We live in an apartment building with 14 units. I am more of the wave or nod and go type, but my husband is a bit more chatty. The couple and their child who live directly next to us are pretty friendly with us. Our super lives across the hall, so we know her. The other people across the hall, my husband knows the one man, and the other couple I have never even seen! The people upstairs are a complete mystery and the people downstairs are as well. It’s so funny because I only ever see the 4 people I know in the parking lot or laundry room. Maybe the whole rest of the builiding is empty .. haha!

My fiance’s ex girlfriend and her boyfriend live a floor below us (which we found out after we moved in and noticed their names on the mailbox) but I don’t really know them even.
I don’t know anybody else in the building at all. Sometimes people see me walking the cat on a leash outside or down the hallway so I’m assuming they all think I’m crazy.

I live in a house with my SO but I don’t know any of my neighbours. I know them all to see as its a small street but don’t know any of their names. No one welcomed us when we moved in and people just seemed to keep to themselves.

We moved in about a month ago now and yesterday we had a housewarming/ welcome party (we threw it ourself) and invited friends and family along with the whole street! We made 30 fliers and were short 1 so that tells you how many houses. We had a good group show up and met some cool people!
We had burgers, hot dogs and lots of beer! It was a blast and we are so glad we did it. I was determined to meet our neighbors so this was a good way to do it since I hate those introduction awkward conversations.
All the neighbors loved it and I think we will be doing it annually now. 😍

I’ve lived in my house for 3 years… we smile and wave at our neighbours but that’s it.

We are friends with several of our neighbors. We have block parties and get together with them pretty regularly.
When I lived in apartment, I never knew any of my neighbors. Now that we own, we are much closer to the people living around us.

I voted no. I know all the neighbors around us in terms of we’ve met them and we occassionally will say a hello or smile/wave in passing. The neighbor next to me, I actually have had some discussion with periodically. However, in the grand scheme, we don’t really interact or converse with them. So, I wouldn’t say I truly “know” them.

No…I wish we did, growing up my family was always close to the neighbors, but we don’t. In fact, yesterday we went to brunch and our waiter clearly recognized us and I played along…but as soon as he walked away I had to ask Darling Husband who that was. He looks at me weird and goes, “our next door neighbor.” So awful.
