I don’t lie, but sometimes none of the poll options fit perfectly, so I’ll choose the option that’s closest to the truth for me.

@IheartUFC:  Breaking news, people lie on the Internet ๐Ÿ˜› I just assume it happens and take it for what it is.

I love that there’s a poll to accompany a thread about lying in polls. ๐Ÿ™‚

And you think people are going to be honest on this poll?  That is hysterical!!!

I don’t really understand why you would lie on the internet, full stop. Surely the whole point is that it is anonymous, so you can feel free to be brutally honest in a way you can’t be IRL?

Nope. BUT…sometimes there isn’t an option for my true answer so I vote whatever is closest to my answer.

@IheartUFC:  I don’t, because I don’t see the point of lying in an anonymous poll. The closest to lying would be : choosing an answer that’s not exactly the right answer, but is the closest to my situation. I usually comment my answers afterwards anyway.

@Rachel631:  For some, the internet is a place to reconstruct a personna/life that they see as better than what they actually have. Honestly, I feel that many people here do that, but since it’s not affecting my life in any way, I don’t care except to roll my eyes and laugh. That being said, I don’t understand lying in polls to keep up the pretending because I feel that’s taking the illusion to a really unhealthy place since you’re the only one who knows you lied.

ETA: To actually answer the thread question: I will sometimes lie on a poll in certain circumstances. For example, if it’s really obvious that the OP loves a dress that I don’t really like. If she doesn’t look bad it in, then I will go ahead and vote for that option. Otherwise, I’ll vote the truth or not vote if there isn’t an “obligatory other” or “I love cats!” option.

If I don’t want to give a truthful answer (for whatever reason…mostly OP’s feeling), I just don’t vote.

I don’t always explain my answer, and I have also come in and read the question and not even voted or gave an opinion. If I do vote I don’t like about it tho.

@IheartUFC:  I don’t lie on polls that are about ME or if the poll poster seems to really want the truth.  But some bees post polls where it’s obvious they just want validation, so unless I’m really against what they’re trying to validate, I will support their situation.  Specifically around dresses/ looks etc.

@IheartUFC:  nope. Not sure what the point of that would be…

I don’t lie because it’s anonymous anyway, but when I read some of the answers, I assume some people do.  It’s the internet, so it’s not surprising in any case!
