So I’m trying to get a general idea of how many people like carrot cake. My boss/friend makes the most AMAZING carrot cake with cream cheese icing on the planet, and we have decided to have her make that for our wedding.
I love carrot cake, and so does my FI and my father, but my mom hates it. So I’m trying to see if I should serve another dessert (not another cake.) I was thinking chocolate chip cookies.
How do YOU feel about carrot cake? Do you like it more or less than typical wedding cake? Would you be super bummed if it was the only thing served?

If you both like it, it’s going to be something else that adds personality to your wedding. Everyone isn’t going to like everything, and no matter if the cake is something more typical like vanilla or chocalate, some people are going to opt out. I wouldn’t worry about it, and if you want to do something nice like choc. chip cookies even better!

@Minnow: Carrot cake is the BEST. Although I am less enamoured of the lemon frosting some people insist on putting on it. Why spoil a good thing, come on guys.

LOVE it, but there has to be a decent amount of frosting!
Hmm..the shop next door sells carrot cake. I feel a Friday binge coming on…

I love carrot cake, but my husband hates it. We had a three tier cake and had a different flavor for each– they were all untraditional. We added in mini-cupcakes of varying flavors and little cups of chocolate mousse too.

I like carrot cake but hate when people put raisins in them.

I like it! Mainly because of the cream cheese frosting 😉

LOOOOVE Carrot cake!!!! You can’t please everyone. Even if you had chocolate or vanilla there would be negative nancys, so I say go for it!!!

I adore the stuff immensely but I know people who do not. I feel very sorry for them.
I have two thoughts for you.
1. Can you bring food into your venue that has not been prepared in a licensed/commercial kitchen? PLEASE check on this if you are at a contracted venue. Several years ago a bride on the knot didn’t check on it and grandmas 300 serving wedding cake was not allowed inside the facility. No cake for the guests, but a lifetime of leftovers…
2. Please consider leaving nuts out incase you have guests who are sensitive to them.

I’m okay w/ carrot cake but would never choose it myself. DH LOVES it. This is why I always advocate for at least 2 flavors for wedding cake. We had cupcakes, and one of the flavors was carrot, for DH, and we actually used carrot cake for our official “cutting” which I never in a million years would have thought I’d be doing haha

@Minnow: I love carrot cake! If they served it at a wedding, I would think it was daring! But I’d love it! Not your typical yellow cake or chocolate cake. I’d be impressed that the couple served something different!!

I don’t like it, I’m allergic to tree nuts/peanuts so 99% of the time I can’t even try it. We’re doing 3 different flavors of cake, that way there will be something for everyone.
