@Orion: If it is a photo strip from a photo booth, yes I like the name and date. We have taken a ton of those and it’s fun to have them all up on our fridge and remember which was from whose wedding.
Anything else, no. I’d put a tag or something that said “thank you- names/date” but it should be removable. Since most people want edible favors, it doesn’t even matter, but if it’s some trinket that they are supposed to keep A. I think it’s already a waste of money and B. if people actually do take and keep them they would feel more useful if they didn’t have someone else’s name on them.

@Orion: This is one of my peeves. I don’t want people’s names on my stuff.

@Orion: dont like it.
If the name and wedding date is a sticker or a tag, it oks bc i can just throw it out. But its on the actual favor, no. I just think its kinda corny lol.
I gave out personalized coffee mugs but not with our names, i put All you Need is Love on them with a double heart picture

Unless what you’re putting your name on the outside wrapper of a chocolate bar, don’t want it.

lmao my mom is in her 50s and she thinks the same. I don’t need something with another couples name on it. It definitely wouldn’t get used.

@Orion: I’m probably close to your mother’s age (late 40s) and I voted no. Unless it’s from my own child’s wedding, I’ve got no desire to keep it. I’ve been to 20-30 weddings and I certainly don’t want a little momento of each one.

Why would I want something with someone else’s name/date on it? It’s not at all significant to me, whatsoever. When would I ever break it out and use it? Never. It would be weird. And as for the coaster – I hope that they at least gave a set of 4 and not just 1. What am I going to do with 1 coaster that has someone else’s name and wedding date on it? Honestly, I hate favors and think they’re dumb. Why do my guests need a little gift at the end to “remember” my wedding by? We have cameras these days, they capture the memories best.

@Orion: I think in general edible favors are the way to go. The one personalized favor I got that I actually liked/used was a matchbox. Mainly because its useful and it has a limited life (throw away after the matches are used up). On that line, I think even a pen would be okay in my book.

Thank you everyone for your input! I appreciate it. I haven’t been to many weddings, so sometimes things seem ridiculous to me, but are normal/expected/encouraged.

okay, so first off, a gift is always great, blah blah but I agree that personalizing is a no-go. No one wants things with another person’s name on it…
BUT — I don’t really get the “edible” thing is the only way to go thing… I actually often find edible mementos kinda pointless.. Some people save them and then throw them away, or eat them stale. Others eat them and then it’s not really a memento…
Things I have gotten and liked: wine stoppers, I got a nice little glass mason jar meant to collect change for your favorite charity, whcih I have used for various things, mini bottle of tequila (edible, but yumm),
Things I have liked and thought meh: a little mailbox from target, a glass rose, a picture frame in the shape of a carriage, a candle in the shape of a carriage.
We gave out onyx candle holders which people really seemed to love. AND they were imported from Mexico on my dad’s trailers so shipping was “free.” They came from an area where Onyx is plentiful so were only $2.50 each!

I think that a candle is always a great gift, personalized or not. I was actually considering doing that, as we have the supplies for making lots of candles.

The only personalized thing that seems at all appealing to me is a koozie, because those always have SOMETHING printed on them, and I like to collect them from vacations etc, so one from a wedding is no more or less useful than one with “Panama City Beach” on it. You know? I will remember, “oh yeah, Orion’s wedding was a blast!” while I get out the supplies for a barbeque next summer.
But yeah, mostly I’d rather have a cupcake. Or for you to remember to tag me in any awesome candids when you get them back from the photographer. I will remember how happy I was to eat a cupcake when I got home later and tired from the reception, and I will LOVE the photos. Everything else favorwise is meh.

I have zero use of something with a couples name, date, photo or date. ZERO.

+1. I love wedding koozies! Anything else with the couple’s name and date, meh.
