I’ve been sick lately with allergies so I haven’t been wearing a ton of makeup, especially not on my eyes. Well, since I’ve had the makeup off I’ve found that I’ve been getting IDed more (which is nice I guess because I’m still pretty young!). lol. This could also be because I’m so fair and wearing little to no mascara makes my whole face look more light and monotone (childish?).
This got me to thinking do you ladies think you look younger with or without makeup on? So many brands try to sell you a “younger, more flawless” look, but maybe just maybe the youngest freshest looking skin is the bare version of yourself. What do you think? Do you think it depends on person to person? Or maybe there is an age that you finally reach where makeup IS what makes you look younger? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

I think part of it is how you’re presented. If you’re wearing nice clothes with makeup, you look like you care more, which (for me, at least), puts you in the college-graduate age range. If I’m wearing a hoodie and no makeup, I tend to look like I’m a high schooler who just doesn’t care, lol.

I agree with you! I’m 22 and I look like a 12 year old without makeup..16 with makeup, lol!

When I don’t wear makeup I always get ID’d for drinks. This is not rocket science just an observation. I think I look older without it, but the public thinks differently.

I definitely think I look younger without it! People just tend to look more put-together when they have nicely done make-up and that put-togetherness makes you appear older.

I don’t think that its the make up that make you actually look a certain age, but like jo.lee said, the impression that make up and being put together gives off that ‘appears’ older. I don’t normally wear any make up, but I think I neither look older or younger with it… just a more polished look which seems more mature which people directly relate to being to older.

I don’t know–I never not wear some makeup! i feel like a bum if i don’t! But i’d say i could probably pass for older/more professional with my face done.

Same here. Without eye makeup especially, I feel like I look so much younger. I am 23 and still look like I am maybe 16 on a good day, but w/o eye makeup, mostly eyeliner, I look even younger than that. LOL. I’ve had a cold the past few days and didn’t want to wear eye makeup yesterday to work and I felt like I looked too young to even work at the bank where I work. hahaha…

I look like I’m about ten years older than I am when I don’t wear makeup…

I’m just chuckling to myself remembering that line from Clueless where Cher’s step brother tells her you can tell who the college girls are because they wear LESS makeup! This almost rings true for me because I was all about the eye liner and lipstick in highschool and now it’s usually mascara and tinted lipgloss unless I’m going out for dinner or have an important meeting etc. Peple used to think I was 20 when I was 16, but now I think it’s opposite…hmm…

I think I look older without makeup on… I have really dark circles under my eyes. Not covering them up ages me!

I voted for the wrong option. I’m 35, and still look like a teenager (and not a very pretty one) without makeup. In my 12 years of professional life I have never gone into the office without makeup for this reason. I’m afraid noone will take me seriously again.

Without makeup, I look tired/sick/sad. Or more specifically, without eyeliner and mascara I look like I hadn’t slept or spent the night crying! But I definitely can see how having makeup on can give you a polished, put-together appearance, and thus make you seem more mature/older.

I definately look younger without make up on…younger? yes…better? Hell to the NO. haha.

I look the same age either way 🙂
