I have what a lot of people think is a pretty cool job, but I hate it!! I am ready to move on but I’m a little lost at what I should be doing. I want to know what other people do that makes them happy. If you have a job you love, I want to hear about it!
I have been at my job 7 years & I feel stuck. I work for a major health care company & I’m part of their Educational Theatre program which means that I go to a different school every day & perform a show about a health related topic specific to their age group. It may sound fun, but the play is only 45 minutes of the day. The rest is driving trucks, putting up sets, expense reports, etc. It’s a full time salaried job with great benefits & bonuses, but I am exhausted. I am the oldest woman who still tours & performs daily & I’m tired of waking up at 4 am to do it!! Right now, we are in a hiring freeze and they don’t see us changing that over the next year or two. This means there is also no room for promotions and we are all taking on extra work to make up for the lack of staff. It’s stressful for everyone. There is also nothing comprable. It’s not like there are a ton of educational theatre companies out there for health care organizations who pay as much.
I’m not at risk of losing my job, so that’s good. The pay is pretty good too, but I am just burnt out and I’m unhappy. It’s starting to make me depressed. I just don’t think it’s worth staying at a job where I’m unhappy for very much longer. I have started going back to school but it’s hard to do more than one class a semester with this job so it’s going to take a while. Also, my husband makes about as much as I do right now, but he does not get benefits so it’s hard for me to let that go. He finished school with a double MFA two years ago and is working toward becoming a professor. When that happens, I will have a lot more freedom, but for now, I feel stuck. Help!!!!
I would just love to hear from people who are really happy in their careers & what it is that makes them happy. Words of encouragement are helpful too 😉 Thanks for any input!
