We’re having a smaller wedding probably 60 people or so. We don’t have a seating chart for the reception and are having a buffet so there’s no need for color coded cards for servers.
We will have mason jars with chalkboard paint on them (I know overdone pinterest idea, don’t hate) so people can write their names on them but I was going to have them by the drinks.
Do I need escort cards or not really? Is it just a polite thing to do and I should do it anyways?

@wisher558: Don’t need them as long as you don’t care where people sit — sounds like in your situation, they aren’t necessary.

We didn’t. We had less than 60 people, people sat where they want and went into the buffet line when they wanted.

sounds like you don’t need them.
you only need them if directing people to a certain table or seat.

I would do a host bar, people hate paying for drinks at a wedding. Spoil your guests with food and drink. If you want them to pay, maybe just do a couple of signiture cocktails so you don’t have to chareg your guests for stuff. Remeber they are your guest and you are treating them.
Just my 2 cents, and really it means nothing. Just thought it would be nice to have a couple of signiture cocktails instead of charging your guests to drink.
Good Luck and happy weddingday!
